| New Yorkie I've been lurking since August learning what I can about yorkies in the hopes of adding one to our family. We were offered a 3 year old little girl by a family who could no longer care for her. She came to live with us on Monday. I took her to the vet yesterday and she weighed 3 pounds. He told me she was emaciated and malnourished. I knew that because I could feel every bone in her body. He wormed her and she expelled a tape worm today. Yea! I've got to get her up to 4 1/2 pounds so that she can be spayed. What a wonderful little dog - so responsive and loving. She is on vitamins for 3 weeks and a good grade of dog food - eating like a pig! She has a grade 2 heart murmer. I hope nothing comes of that but if it does we are here for her. Thanks for the wonderful threads and the knowledge here. It has helped a lot. |

| Hi And Welcome! Congrats on your adoption. I too adopted an adult (21/2 yo) and he was underweight too, 3lb 11oz. (should be 4lb according to doc) Now he's wormed, neutered and on EVO, and seems to be gaining a little. The vet also told me he had a murmur, but that was all. Except mine is a little boy. Did the vet say if its a problem or not? I know humans can have them and they mean nothing.?!?

| Thanks for the reply! The vet told me it isn't a problem now and probably would never be. He did say that some dogs can eventually get fluid and they start coughing and hacking. There is medication to treat that. He was pretty positive about it. |

| Thanks for the welcome!! They called her Belle and we have kept that name. Now for the fun part - I'm a "wonderful" new daddy, not a mommy. lol. I know this sounds wierd but my wife loves the tougher dogs and I like the smaller lap dogs. My grown daughter is a conformation handler and gets a big kick out of her father liking the "foo-foo" dogs, as she puts it. lol. |
