Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Adding an additional Yorkie to the Family! suggestions? Hello everyone! Well today we went to visit a yorkie litter. They only had one male the rest females - and he was absolutely gorgeous. I've been looking for a male for quite some time and being in Hawaii, Yorkie's are quite hard to find sometimes. Well I decided to go ahead and get it. I'm picking him up next Friday and he'll be 9 weeks by then. I honestly don't know how my other yorkie will react. My other yorkie is a 1 year and 3 months girl. Any suggestions for getting them to adapt to each other easier? It would be a great help. Manolo (my girl yorkie) is somewhat spoiled (or you can say just really really loved), so I don't know if she'll be jealous or nonchalant. Any tips or experiences would help a ton! |

| If you do a quck search of even recent posts, you'll see a lot of into about introducing two dogs. I got a lot of advice here and from City Data forums. The best advice I got to avoid a jealous dog was this: treat your oldest as if he were the KING. He must be greeted first; held first; fed first; let out first; walked first . . . you get the idea. EVERYTHING FIRST for your oldest so he knows he has not lost his status. Your new puppy will be so cute! But sometimes you must resist all that cuteness and not pay more attention to your new pup than your older dog. I have a dominant Westie before we added our yorkie. We took things slowly. They were first only allowed together in the yard; then eventually in our living room. (Neutral zone - no food bowls - no toys, etc). Then we progressed to the rest of the house. All food bowls were picked up; bones; and favorite toys in the beginning. Your oldest may show dominance to your puppy to let her know he is boss. For now, he probably is. Try not to intervene too much in their interactions. Sometimes, shows of dominance sound scary but as long as there are no bites and CERTAINLY NO BLOOD DRAWN - try not to 'rescue' your puppy every time unless it's really necessary. This will allow them to establish their pecking order. Good luck! Your dogs may be easy to introduce and you won't need any advice. Sometimes it works out that way and sometimes it requires a little more patience and work. |

| Good luck -- many who have posted here report easy transitions...some not so easy (like me), and others entirely unsuccesssful. I woudl just say be prepared to see an entirely different side of Yorkie #1. With 1 male and 1 female you might be fine from the get-go. Either way I hope you are enjoying your new addition very soon. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks!! I hope they will get a long. I'll read up on other people's experiences here. If I do have difficulties I'm sure I can get some advice from all the wonderful people here. Till next week. I am crossing my fingers. |
