| Dogs Dogs Everywhere! Max and I are having increasing problems running into off-leash dogs on our daily walks in our neighborhood. Call me a wimp, but I nearly pass out from fright when a Great Dane or even a Golden Retriever comes shooting out of nowhere and starts jumping around us. Dogs never amble up to us; they either dart toward us or stalk us. Yesterday, we tried out a new place to walk -- a quaint shopping and real estate development in the first stages of construction. We were passing the back end of a pickup when a huge German Shepherd popped up from the truck's bed and barked menacingly. I gasped in fear and the Shepherd stopped for a moment and did a Yorkie-esque head tilt. Then he went back to growling and put his paws on the gate as if he was about to jump to the ground. I hoisted Max into my arms (Buddy Belts are great for hoisting!) and walked away. |

| This same thing happened to us yesterday. Except it was a itty bitty chihuahua, but still he came out of nowhere. I hoisted Uni up and he was still jumping up and snapping! What a mean little booger he was. His owner couldn't even grab him. I had to stop walking and the owner had to get him mid jump.

| I hate that! It's one thing if your dog is well behaved off leash (but they still should be on leash) but to have dogs charging you, growling, barking, etc... is so messed up. My dad lives out in the "country" in a neighborhood with about 10-12 houses. Every ones dogs except my dads roam free. Luckily, all of them (except this one) are really friendly, calm and mellow. We had a WILD Labrador Retriever (who I feel bad for, he's chained up outside all the time, never gets sufficient exercise, etc) who charged me and Jackson the other day. I had to pick him up by his harness and the dog made me fall to the ground. This same dog has jumped on my little brother and given him a black eye. So irritating.

Glad that you and Jackson weren't hurt -- getting knocked down and being unable to protect Max is my biggest fear. | |
