| AHHHH We just had the scare of a lifetime! What a way to start Monday--let me just say first that everything is OK now, but I'm still shaken up! My fiance and I went out to grab a smoothie for lunch before he went to work and we were gone maybe 10 minutes. He drops me off at home and leaves for work, but when I get inside the house, Stella didn't greet me like she ALWAYS does and she was no where to be found. So of course after hearing all of the stories on here about the terrible things people will do to get our babies, I immediately jump to "someone took her!" and I started freaking out shaking, crying, etc. I called my fiance and he REVERSED off the turnpike entrance ramp to come back home right away...he's a little protective of her. I thought it was really weird because both our patio door and our front door were locked and none of the windows were open. I thought that for sure if she was home, she would be lying on "her" rug under the kitchen table like she always does when we're gone. Also, I flew outside and interrogated the three landscapers that were right next to our patio to ask if they had seen anyone with Stella/Stella running around (I somehow magically relearned my Spanish that I never use but I'm sure I still sounded like I was crazy and/or drunk or something the way I was slurring my words and talking frantically). After they said they hadn't seen anything, I ran back inside and checked all the rooms, under the couches/beds and behind all the furniture. I was yelling her name, saying her "speak" command to try and get her to bark if she was in the house, but by the time my fiance got home I was convinced she wasn't here. He looked all the same places I did, but then he checked the back rooms really thoroughly and we were about to figure out the next step when we heard scratching coming from somewhere. I don't think I could've been happier to hear scratching on a door! Sure enough, she was in the back bathroom that we had checked at least twice, but since we were yelling her name she must've thought she was in trouble so she was hiding in a little space behind the door every time we opened it. That really shook me up because we ALWAYS keep that door closed...so for some reason it must've been open just a tiny crack and she decided to go exploring in there (accompanied by a pile of ripped up toilet paper ) and then when we were looking for her we shut it all the way so she was trapped. Regardless, I'm happy everything is okay but we're both still really shaken up, thankfully fiance's boss is very understanding about "family" things like that. The whole thing makes me wish she would cooperate with a crate or x-pen but she has never liked confined spaces (she'll dig her paws raw trying to get out) so we just leave her out because she just sleeps. There goes my productivity for the day! |

The same thing happened to me one day at my b/f's sisters house.Lexi was no where to be found and her house is big too. It was already dark, a house full of people too, anyway, shes usually right up my butt, but for like 5 minutes, i didnt see her. i asked my bf if he saw her.. well he saw my frantic face, Everyone stopped partying and looked for lexi, of course i was screaming for her.. The little witch was stuck inside the laundry room.. she prob. went in to be nosy and the door shut behind her.. Now that was a scare too.. im just glad your baby was safe

| I am glad you found her and she was probably like sh** I am in big trouble for this toilet paper they are freaking out and they haven't even seen it!!! I can just picture her face like do I fess up now or not? lol I can relate bc a similar thing happend to me with my daughter and she was in her bedroom and when she heard me freaking out she was like Mom what is your problem! lol somehow she had walked to a friends house and the friend said she had left 20 min ago. I asked her brother if he had seen her and he said she hadn't come home yet. I walked passed her bedroom and the door was open so I figured she wasn't in there, I swear I glanced in and didn't see her. I started freaking out drove around the neighborhood and I thought for sure she was abducted at 14. When I got home I broke down hysterical and my daughter came out of the bedroom and said what happend mom. I hugged her so tight I think she thought I had lost my mind bc I was freaking out!! lol I will tell you it was an awful real fealing! So I would be the same with my dogs! give her a hug frome me!!!

| Thanks everyone! Quote:
The look on her face was definitely priceless...she shot down the hallway with her tail in between her legs and then as soon as she saw she wasn't in trouble and we scooped her up I'm sure she sensed our relief and started licking us and rolled over in my arms begging for a belly rub. What a little stinker. | |

| I am soo glad you found her in the house. My 2 do not like to be crated, but they are confined in the kitchen/sunroom. I also worry about my babies getting out of the house or someone taking them. But God watches over them when I can't be home.

| I can't tell you how many times Sophie has slipped past me and "hidden" in a closet when the door was only open for 2 or 3 seconds. I wouldn't notice she was nowhere to be found for a little while and would franticly start searching. She doesn't bark when I call her name so she must think it's a game of hide & seek. Now if she's "missing" I just naturally check every closet door I've opened and there she is wagging her little tail.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Oh yea....relax. They are sneaky lil boogers. Mine sent me into a full blown panic attack, when my mom had to take her to the vet one day, I was at work and I couldn't be there, and because of her adventures with putting things in her mouth, they took blood work, but I was freaked our that something bad was wrong. They surely can get us all worked up.
