| New Yorkie Mom & Dad, also new to your forum... Hi! I am a proud new, 1st time Yorkie momma. I have a lot of questions and it looks like I've found the right place. My son's name is Mokie (like smokey without the s) Jamison Shiner. He was born on Aug 8, 2009 & we just picked him up 2 days ago. He already seems to be well behaved & trained to follow, some verbal commands and games. I was wondering how to care for his coat. He has not been groomed yet and his coat is thin and wispy. My husband and I prefer the look of the shaggy choppy look as to the show coat...We have been advised so many different things to do but I feel I should wait until his winter coat comes in...I welcome all suggestions & comment, thanks in advance. |

| Welcome to YT! Yorkies don't shed, so they don't really get winter coats. Look around at some of the photos on here and if you see a pup with a cut you like, just send them a private message and ask about it. Most of us would be more than willing to help. I keep mine in short coats because it's just easier for me to care for with my busy life. It's really a personal choice. There is a section here called "Grooming Talk" that has some great information as well.

| Hello and welcome and congrats on the new furbaby! I dont like the long show coats either at least on mine. I like a groomed look. I keep my Jewels a medium length and Chachi in a puppy cut. A good way to find a cut you like is to look at the yorkie picture section on here or in the albums find a cut you like and take the picture to the groomer

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Have you checked out the grooming section yet? Also post pics please we love them!. I would first want to make sure he is really used to being brushed and touched everywhere. Ears, nose, teeth, paws and pads of feet, belly etc. Intersperse your brushing with loving pets and hugs n kisses. He is still very young. Are you interested in doing the grooming yourself? Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome!!! Can't wait to see pictures of Mokie. He may have the desired silky coat if his coat is thin and wispy now. You can get a good idea if you saw his parents.
