| Does your biewer shed? My biewer, Jordy, has started shedding. He did this last winter, too. But I had just adopted him from the rescue group right before Thanksgiving. His coat wasn't very healthy then - it was dry, rough and coarse (I assumed from living in a puppy mill). I figured he was shedding all that damaged hair while he grew in a healthy coat. Now his coat is soft, healthy & beautiful. But he's shedding again! I feed him NV Instinct (grain free) and Ark Naturals Royal Coat Express supplement. He doesn't scratch & his skin looks healthy. I thought since biewers were yorkies, they shouldn't shed like this. So what's causing the shedding? Does your biewer shed?

| I don't have one...YET but they are not suppose to shed like that. They have a single coat which is more like human hair. Some hairs will shed (just as our hair does) but not like a regular shedding that most dog breeds do. Have you taken him to a Vet? |

I just talked to a lady who is on the board of one of the biewer clubs. She pointed out that he may not be losing any more hair than my others, I just may see more of it since it's WHITE. I feel like such a dummy, but I think that's what it is. Their beds are a dark brown in the middle, & I always notice how much (white) hair there is on Jordy's bed.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I don't notice any of the biewers here shedding. I would maybe increase the fish oil in his diet. If you see lots of hair on the beds, I would check with the vet. |

You sound like me - I'm amazed I'm not bald as much as I 'shed'.

| I don't give them fish oil every day, usually just 3 or 4 times a week. I'll try to start giving it daily & see if it helps. He's due to go in soon for his annual so I'll definitely mention it then. Thanks for the advice!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Other than some tuffs left in a brush...he shouldn't be shedding like you describe. Shedding is a symptom of a thyroid issue...you may wanna get him tested.

| My oldest is hypo-thyroid and that was a problem he had. I can't believe I didn't think of that. I will definitely have Jordy tested. Thank you!!

I agree. I have a Maltese and I have never noticed her hair on anything just because she's white. Just a little bit of hair in the brush, that's it. | |

| I just get a little in the brush and comb when grooming. I have never noticed any on his bed or on the linens on our bed where he sleeps.
