| What makes one a cuddler and the other so independent? I have two 2-year old Yorkies, one male, one female. They are not siblings, and there is 2 months difference in their ages. The male is very independent; he'll jump up when he wants attention, and really doesn't like to be held if it's not HIS wish. The little girl wants to be held - or at least close - most of the time. She'll stand on her hind legs and pat mine - insistently! - until I pick her up. During the day when I'm at work, she'll stay in my bedroom, either on the bed or curled up in laundry. She doesn't come out until I get home. My daughter works from home, so she tells me this. Bella just wants me to hold her. I'm not complaining; I just wonder if anyone has any insight as to why one would be such a cuddle-bug and one so, so *independent* unless it's on HIS terms (or I have food! ). They've been treated the same ... ? |

| Mine are the other way around. Momo is my luvey dovey chubby mama's boy. Mimi will only give me kisses when she 'feels like it'. Hehee & it's exactly 2 licks on the nose & she turns her head! But...when she feels like being sweet, she won't stop giving kisses! I think it's their personality or 'mood', but I'm also interested to know if it has anything to do w/the way they were socialized as wee pups, or something else.

YT 500 Club Member | Mine are the same too. Alfie is indipendant, happy to plat with his toys. Rosie is nearly always looking to sit on me or by my side, though if Alfie sees me fussing Rosie he'll jump up and ask for attention. Outdoors its a different story though, Alfie never strays far from me and I can get him to return and sit while bikes and cyclists go past. Rosie has to stay on a lead as once she focuses on something she just stays there until she satisfied she has fully investigated it. If she spots another dog or person she wants to run over to say hello. |

| My girl, Miss Ruby, is the same way. She is definitely my girl. She will scratch my leg until I pick her up. She has to be spoken to first when I come home from work. And if I sit down, no one else can have lap time but her. She kisses me for what seems like an hour. She does not do these things to anyone else but me. I don't complain though. These times are the best part of my day. We just got a new baby boy last week. His name is Ringo. He is only 9 weeks old so it is hard to tell how he will be. I do think he is gonna be a daddy's boy because he always wants to take a nap in my husband's lap. He doesn't mind either.....gives him an excuse to sit and watch tv. So I think we will have a mommy's girl and a daddy's boy. That seems fair.

| my two boys are half brothers (same dad), Wicket 2 1/2 yrs old is not as loving as his brother Teddy who is a 1 1/2 yr old, Teddy sits on the back of my neck with his paws sitting on my shoulder, Teddy has to be on top of you at all times where as Wicket is happy as long as he can keep an eye on you. Wicket likes to get in the small of your back in bed where Teddy has to be on top of your head.

| I believe dogs have personalities just like us. Some of us humans are more affectionate than others....so are our dogs. My boy is a lover....he is definitely a mama's boy!

| Both of my dogs love to cuddle. They always want to be around me. My dogs also stay in my room and lay where I sleep in my bed when I am gone. I think my scent comforts them when I am gone. I think a dog's personality is shaped by nature and nurture. My dogs are affectionate. I always encourage my dogs to cuddle by giving them treats and rubbing their tummies when they lie in my lap. When my dogs were puppies, I trained them to sit by my feet to help me potty train them and to keep them safe from harm. I think I encourage my dogs to display those affectionate behaviors. | I think it's just personality. I have two male cuddlers! Both the boys follow me everywhere around the apartment, but when DH is home, Chip (the older one) is torn cause he's a daddy's boy, but loves his mommy a lot too. Smokey's a mama's boy all the way. Edit: I don't know why this is though, but both boys want to cuddle with me more than DH and they want to play more with DH than me. It's like I'm the nurturer and he's the "fun one".

| My 2 1/2 year old male LOVES being cuddled! He'll play on his own at the dog park and walk on his leash without asking to be picked up or anything, but once we are on the couch it's cuddle time for him!! Our female is only 7 months old and while she loves being around us, she's not a cuddle bug. She's really independent and will check in every 10 minutes at the dog park and jump on my legs to say "hi" and then run off again. lol. She will cuddle on the couch with us if she's really tired but that's it haha. |

| I'm glad to see I'm not the only one w/an independent female...My little Apple adores me (and I her), but she's not a real cuddle bug...Late in the evening, she might fall asleep in my lap, but usually just close by on the couch...I love it when she's being affectionate and close to me, but I think it's just when the weather is cold lol...She goes ballistic, if I'm trying to walk out the front door, pulling on my pants leg, like she can really hold me back...She is so adorable, but I think I get on her nerves w/all the kissing and trying to cuddle her....I often wonder when I get another one (and I'm sure I will one day), if it's affectionate, if she will change? |

| Bandit is def. more cuddly! I think it's partly because Nala still can't jump up on the couch and that's his only safe place to get away from her It's fun having one of each! |
