| Can a Yorkie sniff out it's relative? I have been wondering if a dog can sniff out it's relatives and know that a dog is his sibling and remember his parents. I got my dog Rocky from a breeder who has both the mom and the dad. I am planning on getting a little sister for Rocky from his same Mom and Dad. I hope that he will be able to tell this is his sister and this will help him accept a new puppy in our home. Any thoughts on this or experience with this?

| hmmm... interesting post, cant wait to see the responses. Cooper is 2 yrs old and we got his full blooded sister same mom/same dad and I can tell you he hated her at first. He did not treat her any differently then he does my brothers yorkie or my sister in laws yorkies. They are SLOWLY becoming used to each other and playing together but from our experience he did not seem to notice any difference at all.

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | Misty knows and sees her parents maybe every two weeks. I'll ask her if she wants to go and see her mommy and daddy and she is so excited. I don't know if it is seeing mommy and daddy or just because of the car ride!

| I got a make yorkie and when he was 2 I added a female who was his full sister... he had no idea, I can guarantee that... he hated her and wanted her GONE... he has come to accept she isnt going anywhere, but NO he doesnt know he is related to her. He likes his poodle "sisters" much better. |

Cooper is a wild man! We love him to pieces but seriously he is on the go all the time. My brothers yorkies have been to our house several times and Cooper HATES it when they are in his space, he wants to dominate and does not want them touching any of his stuff (lol I know spoiled) however he LOVES going to there house he acts totally different on there turf. We seen our baby several times before we brought her home and we would always let him smell our clothes that we had on when we held her. When we brought her home we let him get near her with us HOLDING her completely and when he was to rough we would just keep saying easy, easy, easy and when he would calm down and lick her nicely we gave him treats. She however will NOT back down to him, she takes him on and they now play tug of war with a rope on there own...too cute. But she wants to get in his bed and lay with him, he does NOT snap he just makes a strange high pitched noise and gets up and moves. It is actually going better than I thought and he has now started looking for her in the mornings. She is only a baby 12 weeks old, and only been home a couple of weeks.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have 3 and 2 are related(Pixie and Roxie) one isn't. The 2 that are related are always picking on the non related one (Cali)and the 2 are much closer to each other even though Pixie and Cali are closer in age. So I don't know why since Cali and Pixie were together longer but it may be the temperments are similar from the same breeder.

| Well, let's see. Adie was my first yorkie. We got her little half brother when she was 2. she hated him on sight and he acted just like you would expect a bratty little brother to act but he grew close to my shih tzu quickly. Skeeter and Adie grew used to each other and play sometimes. However, Adie has distanced herself from him after he nearly killed her in an accidental choking. It wasn't his fault but she tends to blame him for all of the ills of the world. A few months ago we got Gracie who is Adie and Skeeter's mother. (different fathers). IMOM none of them know that they are related. Gracie likes to try to bully Skeeter and she gets all bent out of shape when she thinks one of them is misbehaving but I think that is her trying to be top dog rather than mother. She will play gently with Skeeter as they kind of paw at each other and mouth each other's muzzles. That may just be her treating him like the perpetual puppy he is. The breeder told me she liked to play with the puppies but not the adult dogs. |
