| Ripoff Vet in Manhattan I need to get Chewy's nails clipped so I just called a vet near my house. They told me that in order to cut Chewy's nails, they need to exmine him for the sum of $75 and then the actual nail clipping is $25. This to me is ridiculous considering a lovely groomer near my house will cut the nails for $5!!!!! Stuff like this pisses me off. If you live in Manhattan, I would like to officially say that Dr. Tufaro's at ABC Animal Hospital on Avenue B is, in my opinion, a ripoff! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | HOLY (Blank) !! NAil Clipping for 25 DOLLARS ? They better polish and manicure AND offer massages for that price ...that IS a rip off - they must be VERY proud of their services.... Most vets will do it for 5-10 dollars depending on location - it takes a total of 1 minute to do all 4 feet ...my son's vet does his weiner doggies free of charge - they just bring them in and clip clip - they're outta there |

| Yeah, crazy right?? Well, I just looked up this vet on the net and the word on him is not good. Kind of sad that a vet can continue to provide subpar care to animals with no ramifications. |

| That is crazy! I might be naive, but I didn't even know they charged to clip nails! When I had Lucky neutered I asked them to clip his nails since he would be out and I can't seem to hold him down by myself! And when I picked him up and got the bill it said $5 for nail clipping. I was like hmm...it's not that that was alot but I just had no idea they would charge for it, I mean its not like they are using up any of there product or time really. I mean 30 sec to 1 min and he's done! JMO though! |

My husband would have something to say about that. Diehard Braves Fan. Hopefully this is their year. Been 10 years since they won the series. He is hinting for some playoff tickets. We'll see. Sorry to get off topic.

| My vet doesn't charge anything for nail clipping but I did have a nail experience with another vet. My daughter rocked the rocking chair on his toe and pulled off a nail (ouch) - I had the nail but I wanted the vet to take a look at it to be sure that everything was alright. We didn't go to our regular vet because he was out of town. We had used another vet in the past so I took Rowdy to him. He looked at the nail and said, "yep, it's gone" (I knew that since I had it in my hand). Then he clipped all the other nails (didn't ask me if I wanted him to) and gave me a bottle of antibiotics to keep him from getting an infection and charged me $130 (it was not an emergency vet) If I had been able to go to my regular vet, it would have only cost whatever the antibiotics cost and that is all. My vet is a country vet and he only charges you for whatever you use - he doesn't charge a examination fee - and his charges for lab, medicine, etc are very very reasonable.

I live down the block from the abc animal hospital. There is a dog salon called doggy dearest on 5th street avenue c. I think the prices are kinda decent there. |

| Wow! that does sound like a lot! I got quoted $500 for a teeth cleaning for my westie at one vet!! That's ;ike 5 times more than for a human!! Not to be accused of defending this vet because I am not, but he is a vet and it is different from a groomer. There is a lot of liability and he could be sued if he clipped the nails and didn't examine the dog first because he is a vet whereas a groomer does not have the same liability risk becuase she is not expected to examine the dog before doing something to it. If it were later discovered that the dog had something wrong with it and the vet should have discovered it when he clipped the nails he could be liable. I think that if the animal was a regular patient of that vet and had had regular exams he wouldn't have insisted on an exam. I liken it to a dental office because I work in one and someone cannot just call and ask for an appointment to get their teeth cleaned for example...they have to have an exam first because the doctor has to "diagnose" what type of cleaning you need...is it a regular prophy, a deep scalng or perio therapy? It is also possible that they don't like to do nails so they charge a lot to make it worth their time...I don't know. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | OMG!!!! That is OUTRAGEOUS!!! Can't you cut Chewy's nails yourself or does Chewy not let you? Shop around! You'll find one cheaper. Have you checked with groomers?
