Unhappy Do Yorkies get panic attacks?

I am pretty sure Buddy had one yesterday. I left him to go out shopping
and was gone for only 2hrs. When I returned he could barely breath.
He was panting so rapidly I thought he was going to have a heart attack.
I have never seen him like this before. His body was very hot so I put
his sweater on and took him out in the cool air. It had been raining and it
was cold. What's he do, roll around in the wet cold grass. I let him for a
few minutes we walked and back home.
He was calmer now. I took off his sweater and harness and when I turned around I saw blood on the marble floor. I knew he was digging once again
at the door trying to get to me after I left and cut his paw. When I looked around more
I saw blood on the kitchen wallpaper, dishwasher, stove, couch, into
mybedroom all across the wall under the windows. Hrs later I went into
the master bathroom to find bloody footprints across the counter top!
He get's up there but can't get down. Yesterday he did jump, thank
God he didn't break his leg. It seems he was trying to get to every window
in the house to get to me! Never before has anything this serious happened.
He whines and cries when I leave in the morning but never when I'm home
and leave during the afternoon. I think he paniced and went into a frenzy!
I swear, everytime I solve a problem with this guy he gives me yet another
one. He stayed by my side the rest of the day and into the night.
My 3yr old granddaughter had her first sleep over Fri night and they had
a good time together. I took her home late in the afternoon and he was fine
on Sat. Then Sun this!
I had to go to work this am and left the two bedroom doors closed,
my nightgown with him and the gate across the front door on the inside
so he can't dig the wood and cut his feet again. I looked at his pads and
nails but they seemed fine. This dog is going to put me 6ft under yet.
It's been 5yrs and he's now starting this again. He always had seperation
anxiety and I bought several devises on the market over the years but
nothing helped. Pennies in a can is the only thing but he recently became
afraid of it. Shaking etc. so I stopped using it. Now this!
I am beside myself. I can't stay home forever. Any other suggestions.
I think I tried them all.

Oh gosh that is scary. Poor buddy. A hug for you and a kiss for him.

Listen you might need to do that thing where you hug them and then walk out the door and wait a few minutes and come right back in. Increase the time outside. So he knows your coming back. They eventually get that your not leaving them. I remember that they also said to give them a treat or toy to distract them when your leaving or do your best to wear them out from playing so they sleep while your gone.

Hi Beth,
I am exhusted from keeping this guy happy.
I sit each morning from 6:30-7:00 playing with him. Been doing this
for 5yrs as well.
I leave him with a treat, a hug a kiss. It's been 5yrs and after
yesterday I am at a loss. It's his way or no way he's saying to me.
I only hope the nightgown helps him. Never, ever has it been this bad.
He also get's walked twice before I leave, at 6 and 8.
I can't stop thinking about the anxiety attack or panic attack I think he
had. That's a first.

Crap that is a long time to deal. Would you consider maybe getting him a companion...maybe a cat or another Yorkie. It might be good for him.

Callie has panic attacks. We have tranquilizers for really bad ones. I try to soothe her instead of giving meds, but sometimes it is bad so I give her a small dose.I wonder too, if a friend might help Buddy? On the other hand, you might really have your hands full with Buddy AND a second dog. Hugs for both of you.

Gosh Carol, your post shocked me. I didn't know they would have these type of things after five years. Surely he knows after five years that you are going to come back? Poor little guy, and my heart goes out to you, you must be just beside yourself! I don't have any suggestions other than what others have offered. I just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you.

Poor Bud. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't really have any advice, but I hope you get it worked out. Perhaps a little doggy friend wouldn't be so bad and maybe keep him company? Does he like the company of females?

I've been seriously considering it lately because he's gotten so much
better all around then he hit's me with something like this. Truthfully
I am so parinoid of getting another Buddy I love him to death but
he's been quite the challange these past 5yrs.
When I had my grandpup Harley for a couple of day's and left he
still cried and whined when I left so I don't think adding another
for that reason will help us. He's who he is only thing is who is he?
From one day to the next it's something different.

Really, that's interesting. Maybe this is something I should talk to our
vet about. It's the first time this happend but I don't think his heart
could beat that fast all day without a heat attack. Pray he's ok
when I get home. Maybe it won't happen again. This might be something
I'll have to look into.

I think petedge or jefferspets might carry that air refreshner. It's kind of like the plug ins but it's a lavender scented that is supposed to sooth the pups. That might work. Worth a shot instead of meds.

Carol, I know it sounds silly but maybe try recording your voice and playing that while you are gone. You could read a book out loud and replay it for him, how about leaving a tv or radio on? I used to call home and talk to Harley on the answering machine, telling him he was a good boy etc. My DH thought I was out of my mind, but it made me feel better.
