| Dog parks are great. People are not! We took our lil Xena to a nice dog park today. The park has a separate section for small dogs and is very nice with a grass field, benches, water fountains, restrooms, trash cans, pooper scoopers, and plastic doggie bags. Oh, and lots of tennis balls for all the dogs to chase. Parking is adequate and very close. After about 40 mins or so we had to pack up and leave in disgust! Why you might ask? Can you guess? PEOPLE! The dog owners, er, guardians (the PC moniker) are so darn irresponsible it makes me sick. I saw pile after pile after pile of doggie poo! I saw dogs pooping right in front of their guaradians. NO ONE BOTHERED TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR DOGS! Apalling, disguting, un effing believable! I tried to send a message by grabbing a pooper scooper and disposing of a few piles near our bench. But not one single person followed suit. No more dog parks for us and our lil Xena! Just too nasty! Grrrrrr! |

Xena ignored all the dogs anyway but did manage to greet every human. She is just not a "group dog" dog at this point in her life. She will be one year old on November 3rd. I can imagine dog parks can be nice if only PEOPLE would keep them clean and filth free. Not evern ample cans, scoopers, and bags are an incentive. The problem I have is finding a place where Xena can legally roam off-leash in my neck of the woods. Sigh! | |

I was up there showing in Carmel....the whole town is off leash.....legally Bravo916/Kristena lives up your way and takes her dog to some area and allows her dogs to run...don't know if it's legal

| We can take her to the beach, unfortunately it is not close. I've spoken to other owners that have been fined as much one 100 dollars for letting their dog off-leash! Ouch! I never want to be confronted by some half-witted icehole of a park ranger or wannabe cop with a ticket book. |

| Many years (about 40 or so) ago, the family vet we had had at the time (his son took over his father's practice after he passed away) told my mother to be very careful where we walked our dogs (at that time a female chi and a male peke). To not let them sniff and smell where other dogs have gone, pee as well as and especially poop as they can pick up disease(s) by doing so. Having never forgotten this, I only have mine out in either mine or my daughter's yards. And, because of this, would [I]never[I] even consider going to a dog park. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

| That's a shame. I think the dog park is a wonderful thing. Jackson has an absolute blast and I can't imagine life without it, he would be so bored on the weekends. I guess I'm just lucky we have a really good dog park with mostly good people! Water is always refilled, people leave poop bags for other people to use in a little basket, dogs are always corrected when doing something wrong. Jackson is a highly doggy dog and enjoys the company of other dogs greatly, it's awesome for their socialization. I can't imagine confining him to our own backyard all the time.

I could not imagine not allowing him to have access to other dogs and to be social. While we do not have a big fancy dog park, we do have a community there where everyone knows everybodys dogs, so we can tell them if their dog is pooping or even correct their dog if they are doing something inappropriate. I would not want it any other way I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but don't think that all dog parks are that way...

| I agree some people are extremely inconsiderate. The other day I was on the look out for whoever walks their dogs in front of our house and leaves a big pile in our front yard. Daily I had to go out and clean up somebody else's dog doo. I took to watching out the front window whenever people passed to find the culprit and I did. I came outside and said "Hey! You aren't going to leave that in my yard are you?!! She said "Oh no, I was going back to my house to get a baggie". Yeah, right. I said, "Thank you very much" and she came back in about ten minutes and picked it up and hasn't been back since. We don't have a dog park here but we do have a huge fenced in back yard Sophie loves to run in. We also take her for walks and we live on Lake Michigan so she goes to the beach to run. The beach is fairly deserted this time of year and she likes being there. I don't think I would take her to a dog park even if we had one for reasons mentioned here. Jackie & my Sophie |

Couver sounds like an awesome little guy, too bad you live on the other side of the country! LOL. I bet Jackson and him would play good.

| I know how you feel. Our city was up in arms because we didn't have a dog park. Well, we finally got one....and now......those same people that wanted one don't clean up after their dogs. You can't just walk around with your dog without having to lookout for land mines. also- Uno is only 7 pounds, and the big dogs around him sometimes want to play (he gets scared, tries to run away, and his luxated patellas kick in and it's a bad experience) and there is this one guy who owns a big dog that ENCOURAGES it, he say, "Yeah! Get 'em! You show him who's boss!" UGH. Unfortunately at this place there is no small/big dividers. We have to drive 10 miles out of town for a small dog park. |
