| My New Book and The What Makes You Cry Thread Hi: Amazon is the greatest. I already have my new copy of "The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog" by Anne Seranne. In the preface she talks about how she became interested in breeding really top show dogs. She would finish her own class at a dog show and then race over to watch a Poodle bitch with whom she had fallen in love. She thought she was simply the most gorgeous thing she had ever seen. She says she cried when she lost and she cried when she won. Then I remembered the thread that was started here awhile back about what made people cry. I don't know that I've ever read anything here that made me cry, but I love to watch dog shows on tv and there was a Doberman bitch in the Working Group at Westminster many years ago who had been sick and had nearly lost her life only a few days before the show. She was simply the most gorgeous thing I had ever laid eyes on. A true show dog. She was exquisite. She won Best in Show that year and I cried like a little baby when she won. Ditto a couple of years back when the Newfie won BIS. When it was their turn to go around, his handler (Michelle Ostermiller, the best I've ever seen)pulled his head up to her ear (I'm sure the dog outweighs her) and whispered into it, he lifted up his chin and came out with a "bow-woo-woo-woo" and off they went around the ring. The crowd came unglued. I started crying right then and there and I was still sobbing when she was handed her rosette. Some of us are just afflicted. And, as Forrest Gump would say, "that's all I have to say about that". CJ (or Barney Fife as one of the members dubbed me) |

| I really love that book. I don't know how far you've gotten into the book but there are many interesting facts that are explained that you'd never consider. Whether or not you're thinking of breeding for showing or not, it really does explain the hows and whys of breeding for the betterment of the breed. Lisa

You reminded me of a picture caption in the book that has stuck with me. "Only breed to improve." She discusses a lot of breeding strategies and uses pedigrees from top winning dogs and kennels to illustrate. Some really good stuff. CJ | |
