| Hello!! Hello everyone! I am new to this site and extremely glad I found it. Soon, I will be a yorkie owner myself. My family and I are getting a puppy next month and look very forward to having her. She was born 11 Sep and currently with her parents--we are able to visit her weekly. By reading this site, it has calmed our nerves tremendously. We have learned so much by reading the posts here. Since we are brand new to this (we have never owned a puppy--had older dog in the past) is there anything we need to know prior to bringing our puppy home? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Hi welcome to YT. please read as much as you can on getting a new puppy. It sounds like you will be getting your puppy at 8 weeks old and that is NOT recommended at all. Good breeders will not allow their puppies to leave their homes until they are at least 12 weeks old. check out these links before you purchase your puppy: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America - yorkie club site full of great information about the yorkie http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ead-first.html

| Congrats on your new addition to your family. There is nothing better than bringing a new baby home. Everyone is going to give you their personal advise and you need to go through it and than make your own best decisions. The great thing about being on YT is there is a large diversity of people that will tell you good and bad advise but the good news is all comments come from people with your best interest at heart. I have personally been breeding yorkies for around 30 years and I never want to keep puppies over 8 wks old unless they are smaller than normal or a customer is just not ready yet. There will be tons of people that will comment about why you should wait to get them older but that is a whole different subject. So, my advise to you is puppy proof your home, keep your baby in a small area while potty training, keep them on a schedule, feed them a good quality food and give lots of luv and patients. Enjoy! |

| Congrats Congrats on your new little one. I too am becoming a new yorkie mommy. We have two puppies coming next week. One will be 9 wks and the other 11 wks. Most of my friends got their puppies between 8 and 10 weeks. None of them have had any problems. Good luck to you. I look forward to seeing pics and swapping funny stories! |
