| New dog So I have my Yorkie Oscar who is a year and a half and today we sort of rescued a dog. He was found left on the side of the highway. He seems to be some sort of labrador mix. He's big but so sweet. He has a great temprement and he seems to be healthy. I'm gonna take him to the vet on Monday to have him checked out. Oscar is really jealous. He keeps trying to steal the other dog's food and if I give Dunkin (that's his name since that's the town he was found in) a treat, Oscar will come over and steal it. Dunkin is so sweet he doesn't even react. Do you think Oscar will get used to him if we end up keeping him? Are Yorkies good living with big dogs. Neither of them are aggressive or even bark, it's just the jealousy I'm worried about. Any thoughts?

| Oh, Thank you for rescuing Dunkin!!!! I have two yorkies and a great pyrenees and they do wonderfully together. There's photos are in my albums. Any dog, no matter the size can be jealous of the other. The key for you to keep it from becoming a fighting situation is to not allow them to do things like Oscar stealing Dunkin's treats. Oscar needs to learn that it's not allowed. His food is his food and Dunkin's food is Dunkin's food. One day you may give Dunkin a treat that he really desires and he may feel a need to defend his treat from Oscar, so teach Oscar now to have harmony later. And if your loving on Dunkin and Oscar wiggles in demanding the love, don't give in. I'm not saying not to love on Oscar, I mean it needs to be on YOUR terms. (If he's doing this type of thing) I dealt with these issues when I brought Bijou home. Barley was very jealous, but Bijou would steal his food so I had to stop both. Hope that helps. Please, keep us posted on how they are getting along. PS: I'd love to see pictures of Dunkin!

Thanks, this is good advice. I'm just nervous that I'm not going to be able to give Oscar all of the attention I used to give him. He is so spoiled and I'm worried he's going to get upset when he isn't the center of attention. I know I'm stressing over nothing.

| What a good thing you have done but you really shouldn't let your dog around him until he (highway-cute name for a dog) has been seen by a vet..he could have diseases that could harm your dog. I know it is tough to keep them separated but I would hate to have something happen to your little one.

| Well, I took Duncan to the vet to have him checked out to see if he was OK. He had some swollen lymph nodes and a skin infection. The vet didn't think it was a good idea to have him around Oscar since Oscar has some immune issues. So we are boarding Duncan at the hospital for the night and we'll have to try to find him a home tomorrow. It's sad cause he is a sweet dog, but I already have one sick dog and adding another isn't a good idea. I hope I can find him a good home where he's gonna get the care he needs. I really tried to do the right thing, but now I feel bad. But I have to think about my little Oscar first. Say some prayers for Duncan that we can find him a good home. Thanks.

| I'm glad you got him into a vet. I'm sorry he's ill. Have you thought of any local rescues? Did you vet know of any? I'll pray for him, please, keep us posted on your progress with him. I feel very bad that it's not working out for you all.

| I picked Duncan up from the vet today. Another woman in my apartment complex is taking him for the night and we will hopefully find him a home soon. I know that the local humane society is full and not accepting any new dogs. We are going to try the SPCA but they only keep them for 5 days and if they aren't adopted they get euthanized. I hope we can find him a permanent home. He is such a sweety and can give a family tons of love. I'll keep y'all posted on the progress. Thanks for your thoughts.
