| Please help Hi there to all that read. I want to first start off by saying that I am new so I don't really know what I'm doing. I have wanted a Yorkie baby for some time now and finally I think me chance has finally come and I can't express how happy I am . I'm supposed to pick her up in about two weeks, which is perfect becauseit will be my 38th B-day. My question comes because when I asked the young lady about health guarantees she said that she offers a 5 month health guarantee. I was speaking to this other lady and she was saying that by law the health guarantees are supposed to be for a year out here in California? I have no ideal. This Yorkie baby that I am soon to get will be 10 weeks old and she is AKC registered and she is adorable (I have seen pictures). Can I also please get advice as to what the best food should be for the little one as well as any other things that would help me. The lady said that this was her first liter and to my shock she said that she had a litter of 6 (wow). Is this out of the norm? I guess all can see my hesitation a little. I guess after talking to so many others on different things I have heard that 6 is an awful big litter but she said that the Mom was 6 1/2 lbs and the Dad was 4 1/2. I really want this to happen I just don't want any thing to go wrong |

| First hi there and welcome to YT A one year guarantee is extended by most reputable breeders. Perhaps you can talk with her and ask why she doesnt extend the guarantee, if she doesnt give good sounds reasons, I would not consider purchasing from her. Make sure her guarantee covers LP's and Liver shunt, these things usually will show up within the first year if they are in the dam/sire genetics. read California lemon puppy law it states the breeder is obligated to pay for any congenital or hereditary defects for 1 year. http://www.malteseonly.com/lemon.html hope this helps

| Welcome to Yorkie talk! You're bound to get a lot of advice and opinions here. Just my opinion but I think good health should be your biggest concern. You don't want to fall in love only to have big vet bills and a bigger heartache later on. I would want a 1 year guarantee. I'm sure others have more experience in this. You will love having a Yorkie.

| Me again O.k. I am back again and I want to say Hi and a big Thank you for the responses. You guys are so nice and it just warms my heart that there is soooo much support out there . Another question if I may? This is probably a stupid one but I'm going to ask anyways.....Is this guarantee supposed to be in writing and does it say Health Guarantee on it or is it just something that she has typed up and it requires a signature from all. |

| not asking questions is the bad thing I am thrilled you are doing your research, you are asking the right questions. the Health guarantee should be written within the puppy adoption contract both you and the breeder sign to inforce it! take a look at mine perhaps it will help http://yorkiepassion.com/contract.htm

| Welcome! Ask lots of questions, that's the only way you will find your answers. I would say 1 year. I would question a 5 month guarantee. There are a lot of people here on this site who can answer lots of questions, I'm sure they will help you the best they can. I'm not a breeder, just a Yorkie Mom. As far as food, use what your breeder is feeding, if you change the food too fast, she will get an usset tummy. There are so many good foods out there, you are going to have to find one she likes. Just make sure it's a good healthy one. 6 puppies, sounds like a big litter to me, but like I said, I'm not a breeder, so I wouldn't know. Again Welcome! We would love to see pictures of your new baby!

| If there is a Puppy lemon Law for Ca. then you do not need to have anything in writing. Just READ the law and see what It covers. You can usually do a search under Puppy lemon laws and Ca. and it should pop up. BUT if you sign a paper saying you agree to the 5 month guarantee then this will void the states law. Also......if this is just a person with a litter the state law will probably not apply to her. You need to check out what your state does. in my state it covers pets shops and breeders who are registered with a kennel license , which is only needed is the person sells over a certain amount of dogs per year.

| Welcome to Yt! It's great that you're asking lots of questions, that makes you a good yorkie mom already...You should definitely feed whatever the breeder's feeding and if you want to change the food, do it gradually so that your pup doesn't get sick. |

Its obvious the breeder didnt know the law existed by offering only a 5 month guarantee. Never leave buying a pup without a signed contract no matter if you are protected by state laws. It is always much easier to pursue with signed contract in hand if complications arise. This way as well there is no misunderstanding what the breeder is offering and the buyer is accepting. JMO
