| young puppies eating When I got Lexi she was 11 weeks old and seem to have a little bit od trouble eating dry food and the breeder said to wet it. My vet told me instead of wetting it try blending it. I did and it was almost as fine as sugar but not wet and she ate it great. Then a long came Tori at 10weeks and same thing and let me tell you she eats very well now. Anyway the point of this thread is because I figured that my pups can't be the only ones who had trouble eating dry kibble when really young, and this is a good way to get them to eat the dry kibble and it's better for their teeth than wetting their food. Hope this helps someone, and if I posted this in the wrong section I'm sorry...

| i blend lexi's food all the time.. i figured that out myself, its was just too hard for her to eat... i blend a whole canister at a time so its makes life easier. and sometimes for a treat or a trick, i give her dry food.... ha ha she dont know its really her food...and that cleans her teeth...

| This surprises me. I have fed Katia the same dry kibble since she was 8 weeks. She never had any problems. At 11 weeks I think they all should be fine with kibble.

| Both of my girls had a hard time crunching it. Right now Tori is 1lb 13oz and her teeth are so tiny and she seems to have a hard time crunching it. I feed her Nutro lamb and rice puppy) Lexi gets Nutro lamb and rice, and chicken soup. I do NOT blend Lexi's food anymore haven't since she was 14 weeks.

I think Nutro may be a bit harder than alot of other foods. When my puppies first try to bite it they couldn't. I have since changed brands. Tauni | |

| Just to clarify - I didn't know what you meant by blending.... I guess you mean that you put it in the blender!!! Anyway, that is what I did to Rowdy's food too - although I didn't use the blender, I just pounded it till it was fine. However, sometimes Rowdy would eat it and sometimes he wouldn't - so.... when he wouldn't I would use he Gerber (human) toddler chicken weenies, cottage cheese and wet food - ANYTHING to get him to eat. Sometimes I could put just a tiny bit of kayro syrup on his dry food and he would eat it. I know dry is best, but sometimes they just won't eat it for a while. Also, I tried switching Rowdy to California Natural but the kibbles are bigger and hard and he still will not eat it at 7 1/2 months old and 4 lbs. He DOES NOT like bigger, hard kibbles. I am in the process of switching him to Solid Gold, wee bits for small dogs - he just eats so much better when the kibble is tiny. Maybe he'll do better when he is bigger, but for now, that's about it.
