| Hubby says no to another Yorkie I really want to get Toby a new friend. He is 6.5 months, and loves other dogs. I think he would really benefit from another dog in the house. I would be getting another one for Tobys benefit rather than mine. I get enough fun from Toby, but dont think its fair on him to be an "only child"! Hubby thinks i am being silly - "he's just a dog". He doesnt have to do anything with Toby - I walk him, feed him, play with him, clean up after his wee accidents. Now dont get me wrong, hubby is really attached to the dog, and the dog loves him, and knows that hubby= fun & chicken! So another one isnt going to be any more work for hubby, but he just says no this time. He wants us to start trying for a family, but I am not ready yet, but I think that is an even bigger reason to get another dog. It is inevitable that when we have a baby, there will be less time for Toby. At least if there was two of them they could entertain each other for a while. Any suggestions?? He is already annoyed that I went against his wishes and rang a breeder about one.

| Perhaps your husband is concerned with the costs involved? Getting the pup is one thing, but the other costs (vet bills, especially) can really add up. But, so does the cost of human babies . Maybe he will relent if you ask for one for Christmas, your birthday, or maybe your anniversary? Good luck ... |

| Well the way I talked my husband into it is he loves to play softball and I get annoyed that he plays so much, so the deal is that I don't fuss when he plays softball. We both win!! LOL

And the reason I need the dogs for company is because he neglects me when he is playing his xbox!

| Maybe if you went ahead and started a family, your hubby could see how much Toby needed a playmate, since you'd be giving the skin baby so much of your attention |

| I would use the xbox thing. Tell him you won't complain about him playing it and you will buy him some new games if he lets you have another furbaby. Or you could tell him no skin kids until you get another furbaby LOL

| Many years ago, when I got my first Yorkie, I was married. I wanted a small dog in the house. We had no children and I spent alot of time alone. A lady I knew had a liter of Yorkies born, and she mentioned them to me. I asked Mr. if I could get a Yorkie puppy and he was not too excited about that. I let it drop. When the puppies got old enough to sell, the lady called me and asked if I wanted one of the puppies. I called Mr. at work, told him the puppies were being sold, and "do you want me to get one". LOL He said yes. This way, the final decison was on him, and he could not throw it back at me down the road. So, I bought the dog, took him home, he was about a pound and a half in weight. I put the puppy down on the living room floor and he went toddling over to Mr. Mr. said, "you mean I paid THAT for THAT?!" It was so funny, and we had a wonderful Yorkie for 14 1/2 years.

| I am getting there. He has now asked me to think of something that would make it worth his while changing his mind. He isnt that keen on it, but I think I will get him persuaded, but is that fair?

| When I got my first one I felt as you do, that she needed her own kind to keep her company and play with her like only another dog can play. My husband was all for it because he knew as I do that dogs are pack animals and are happiest with their kind, not to mention how much better it is for them to be together when parents are out of the house. It worked beautifully, except Zada was so laid back and Azrael was so full of energy and wanted to play more than Zada did, so I thought I should try to get another one that was energetic and playful so we got Razael who is a very playful little girl. We dearly love watching our "Yorkettes" as a little pack of their own, and with their individual personalities and charm. The difference between my husband and I is we have always been our own person to do as we want as long as it isn't hurting the other or being disrespectful in any way. We always discuss any major purchases or like a pet that impacts both of us before making a decision. Some husband's think they should be in total control over everything, and the wife actually becomes an enabler, and when she wants to do or buy something, the husband expedite's his dominate roll which leads to an argument where no one wins. Sometimes the wife will either cry or get verbally aggressive and the husband just gives in to shut her up, but the bad feeling will stay with him and can start feelings of disrespect. (without love and respect, you have no friend) Best thing to do is have some very long talks, explaining how you feel and why. Try to get both of you on the same roll, not have one more dominate. Listen to what he feels as well, and weigh the difference. Always be prepared for a compromise.
