| My yorkie is having leg problems, please help!!!! My 10 month old yorkie, Izzy Bee, is having back leg problems, when she runs she throws her back legs more from side to side. She does it mostly when she is running. It seems like it is painless but it is happening more frequently. Has anyone had this problem with their dog? Any suggestions/ advice? my son describes it as waddling like a duck

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | it probably has something to do with her knees. the vet will need to check out her. Lots of little dogs have luxating patellas which can cause them to walk funny. some dogs will walk totally normal and every now and then will kick a back leg out behind them because their knee slipped out of place. some dogs have LP in both legs and its so bad that it causes them to walk with their knees kinda pointing outward. I fostered a Chi with a problem like this. She constantly looked like she was going to poop because her knees were bent outward and her back was hunched a little. Luxating patellas is a common problem and surgery is required to fix it once it gets bad enough to cause pain and/or discomfort. The Chi i had didn't look like she was in pain either but her knees were so bad and she was so young (9 months) the vet figured she was born like that and was used to the pain. some dogs just deal with it and don't show pain.

| By all means get little Izzy Bee to the vet. Has this just begun or did your vet not notice this on previous visits? He may start her on vitamins and supplements. LP is diagnosed in stages and as stated is treatable with surgery. Let us know how little Izzy Bee (cute name) is doing. Good Luck Jackie & my Sophie |

| Hi It sounds like luxating patella [LP]. My Calleigh has it in both legs. I was told by her vet this week that her right leg is out and doesn't go back. She looks normal and never straightens her legs at all. I'm going to take her to an Orthopedic Surgeon for a second opinion. My vet said she didn't need surgery. I'm very confused with his diagnosis though. I want to do what is best for her. Hopefully she won't need surgery, but at least I'll know for sure. You can Google luxating patella in dogs. There is a lot of information on it. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

| Thanks for the insight. It has just started, and I will keep you posted on what the vet says. I'm not sure if it's her knees or hips but seems more like knees. She is very active and it appears not to bother her at this point. I agree that she should be evaluated by a vet.
