| Ears? 1's up & 1's down??? Ok, so I have a couple of questions about Lily's ears. She woke up on Monday and she had 1 ear up, yea!!!!! The other one is wanting to, it's mostly standing with the "tip" part flopping. It's definelty cute but I was wondering if anyone knew when the other one will follow suit. Do they usually come up in the same week??? I've trimmed her ears, which she hates by the way So I was just checking. I also have a question about her eating her poop! I heard that if you give them pineapple it'll make the poop smell and taste bad...is it too soon to give her pineapple and if I can is the canned pineapple ok.

| Squirt went through the both down, one up, to two up stages. Took a couple of weeks for the second one to go up. However, sometimes you end up with a mix.

| You need to trim the ends of the ear for them to stand up. Joey's is shaved at the very tip, so they stand up perfectly.

| Hee Hee..Riley,s ears did the same thing when he was a baby..it was so cute!..they stayed that way for a couple weeks, then one morning I woke up and they were both standing straight up..and they stayed that way!. Keeping the ear hair trimmed very short will help.:

| Shayna had one ear up at 6 mo and I worried too, everyone kept telling me to be patient and everything I read said wait for teething to end and it was true. Though I thought that ear would never stand up, at 8mo it finally did. So no worries, leave it alone and it will stand. As for eating poo, no idea, never had that problem, thank God |

| Motley has one up one down...occasionally the other one will pop up but never for very long. It just adds to his personality and makes him even more adorable. |

| Gizmo always has one ear up all the way but the other ear is just slightly bent at the tip and flops over. I love it! I think it gives him character!

Senior Yorkie Talker | You need to have someone totally shave both ears and fold them in half so they are straight up and tape them with masking tape. You leave it on 4 days and then take it off. If they are still down, retape for another 3 or 4 days. You have to shave the ears to unweight them. If you are not sure how to tape and do not have anyone to show you, buy some 1/2 inch masking tape and have the vet show you. If you don't unweight the ears, some of them never come up. I always keep them shaved half way down the first year even after they are up. Hope this helps. (That is why there are so many flop eared yorkies out there because the breeders do not tape nor do they show the buyers how.) Quote:

| Thanks Thank you for all of your suggestions. I tried shaving some of her hair off, but she fought me so I quit. ( I know, I'm a push over ) Anyway, the one ear is still up and the other one will come up for a moment than back down. I think I'll try to remove more hair and tape it like the last post said. I really think it'll come up on it's own, since the one did and it's "wanting" too but I'm going to help it along. How do you "shave" their hair when they absolutely HATE it???? I feel like I'm hurting her.

Senior Yorkie Talker | If you are worried about hurting her, just have a groomer do it for you. the best way with pups is have someone hold her and you shave it. It needs to be taken off completely with a 40 blade. Some do come up on their own, but don't count on it. There are a lot of flop eared yorkies out there. The best thing is to keep the weight off the ear by shaving for the first year. It takes time for puppy cartlidge to strengthen. I usually tape by 8 weeks if they are not up and I also show the new owners how to do it also in case it flops again (which it can when teething). Get control of the pup and don't let it tell you what you can do to it and what you cannot. If you are not hurting her, get her used to brushing and combing like it or not. Yorkies are terriers and they have terrier personalities. They will run you if you let them. Make sure when you tape that you tape them straight up starting at the base. The vet can usually show you how. Quote:
