| therapy dogs Dose anyone have their Yorkie trained as a therapy dog? I took Gatsby to visit my grandmother in her nursing home and he was so great! All the residents loved him. I talked to a nurse and she told me he was better behaved with the residents then some of the trained dogs they get in, He is very laid-back and quiet he is only five pounds so the residents like to hold him in their laps and to be honest I loved seeing the smiles on their faces one woman begged me to come back so she could see him again I am sure Gatsby loved it too when we were in the building he was as calm as could be. When we went back today he was so excited he pulled me to the doors, but he was not allowed in because they had a resident death just before that and it's some kind of policy, but what I really wanted to know is does anyone know what you have to do to be certified the nurse told me to look into Delta, but I wanted to ask hear first in case there was a better or easier way I heard it's very complicated and the process has to renewed every year class and all anyone have any advice.

| I don't have any answers for you, but I hope someone can steer you in the right direction. So many of our elders are forced to give up their companions when they need to go into "homes". It's a very great loss ... sometimes, the pet was the only reliable companionship the person had . Having a dog or cat around is very soothing ... I know that Bella-boo can drop my BP by 15 points in about 10 minutes. Your wish to share your pup with others who can't have one is a very honorable gesture. I wish you luck. |

| I know you have to take the Canine Good Citizen Certification test. You can google it for your area . Theres usually a class that goes with it.

| This is something that I am wanting to do too. My son is a cancer patient and they always bring dogs to the Oncology floor every Thursday for the kids who are inpatient for chemo or sickness. Evan loves it! The whole floor looks forward to the the evening. I do know that the dog has to atleast a year old but I don't know what other requirements there are. I don't know if anybody has a therapy dog here on YT...? I think its a wonderful thing & good luck!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Izzy is a certified Therapy Dog through Delta and has been for 2 years now. We first started out by taking puppy 1 and 2 classes (clicker training) and she loved it and had the right temperment for therapy training. We then went on to Canine Good Citizens training and tested for that. If your doggie can go through CGC test..you should have no problem in testing through Delta. It's a very rewarding experience for both you, dog and especially the patients you see!! Good luck.
