| Is my puppy a Yorkie or a Silky? I recently got a 6 month old puppy from my aunt and uncle and I can't tell if he's a Yorkie or a Silky. My aunt said he's a Yorkie, but she got him from one of her cousins that bred two said "Yorkies". He has a white patch on his head and he's still slightly black with some light gray on his back, and his mustache, beard and legs are golden tan. He has a sort of long tail, and he's about 9" high from foot to shoulder and 10" long from shoulder to rump. When he gets wet, though, his face is very pointed without the volume of his circular hair cut. Does he sound more like a Yorkie or a Silky? And also, he still has soft fur, not silky hair. Though I did read here that it can take a year for their hair to become silky. Thank yooooou |

| Many yorkies have a pointy face. Why would you think he's a silky? |

| Well base on that site My 12lb yorkie is a silky also. I love my ONI but he is more of the size and shape of a silky and he is ACA registered which means NOTHING. Got him from a puppy mill and I bet the so called breeder used a silky to breed with cause they are bigger which means more puppies for them. ONI definitely has the longer slender nose like the silky. I hate puppy mills. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | A very dear friend of mine bought a "yorkie" from a repudiable AKC breeder and after lots of discussions she had a dna test done on him.. she paid a bundle.. something I Could never do..LOL to find out that her AKC yorkie is a silkshire, half yorkie half silkie, and after comparing her boy to mine I keep telling my hubby I think Harry is one too but he keeps pointing to his AKC certificate and telling me I been reading way to much on that..LOL Harry Two is 6.5 pounds and really silkie hair, but his little body is more longer than Prada who is AKC yorkie registered too.. so lately I think that PAPERS mean nothing as long as they are HEALTHY.. only for Show I would be concern and I am not doing that anytime soon..LOL hugs, carmen in nj |

| well, my girls are littermates, 4mths old. I saw both parents, saw the whole litter. I visited them mutiple times before pickup. Bug was the only one that looked different. I think sometimes the genetic pool throws a great grandparent gene in the mix out of nowhere. I've always thought Bug looked a bit 'silky'. She has the long nose, long body and slow growing short hair, and relatively hairless legs. Her sister is 100% yorkie, technically so is Bug. I figure it's like wondering where that redheaded kid came from. Mom keeps denying but Dad still keep giving her those 'looks'.....LOL
