| Poor Teeko :( So we have Teeko just over a month now, which makes her about 13 weeks old. A little madam if ever there was one. She is hilarious - knows exactly what she wants and how to get it!! Her lil' face is just irresistible - I'll post some pics soon, been totally run off my feet! The past week she's been suffering with a terrible cough at night time. Vet says it's bronchitis and so she's now on her second course of antibiotics and steroids. She's perfectly fine during the day, running around playing normally, appetite appears to be fine - once bedtime comes, oh oh - here comes the coughing!! I feel so sorry for her but vet says it probably looks and sounds a lot worse than it actually is. I hope so! Last night she woke up at least 7/8 times with a really bad fit of harsh coughing. She's fine now and I'm the one with bags under my eyes! Anyway if everyone could keep little Teeko in their thoughts. I really would like her to recover very soon - and I really need to get some sleep!! Any thoughts/advice appreciated as always!! J xxx |

| She will be fine! Rily did this too. I took him to two different vets and both diagnosed kennel cough....but none of the other dogs in our family got sick. His regular vet later said it was tracheitis. He coughed like that for about 2 months. He is totally okay now and growing like a weed.

| OMG, 2 months of coughing!! I don't think I could handle that. It must have driven you insane. In that case I think I'll have to buy some earplugs Seriously, I've lost so much sleep I'm like the living dead here. I can't be mad at her though, it ain't her fault the poor little thing. I just wish I could help her feel better |

| awww, poor little thing. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. Too bad we can't put them to bed and smear Vicks on their chests like our Moms use to do to us. Lordy that stuff sure did stink, but it sure worked too. We'll be keeping you both in our prayers. Keep us posted on how she's doing.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I will keep Teeko in my prayers. When I got Cali she came with kennel cough and gave it to my older pom. It took 3 months to completely get rid of. I would run the shower on the hottest setting and close the door with me and them in it and let the steam help cleat their lungs. It just gradually got better. They were on antibiotics as a precaution so that it would not progress to pneumonia. Their coughs were mostly at bedtime and when waking up. They were fine otherwise.

| Could it be that there is something in her nighttime environment that is making her cough? |

| Thanks folks!! I don't think so luvfla, I don't use air freshener or anything like that in the bedroom. She sleeps on the bed with us (I know I know) so the only thing I suppose might be the detergent we use?? Although the Vet said he could feel that her tonsils were "up"..... whatever that means??...... so I've kinda ruled out that it might be an allergy because the vet seemed to know straight away what the problem was. I really trust our vet, have been using him for over 20 years and he's just the best - I've heard so many bad stories about some vets and I suppose I'm very lucky. Our guy is a real animal lover (as opposed to being in it just for the money). He has always had a lot of time for our dogs over the years. When you go to see him he has a genuine interest in the animal and will spend a few minutes petting them etc before doing anything. He's really gentle aswell, gives injections as if he were giving them to a little baby so as not to make the pup yelp. He's just the absolute best. He did say that it would take a long time for Teeko to get rid of the cough, especially as she is so young. We were due to take her for her first walk this weekend but now we can't , gotta keep her nice and cosy until she shifts this thing. I might try letting her in the bathroom with the shower running as Patti suggested (Thanks Patti!) - I'll try anything to help ease it for her. It's very hard seeing such a little one struggling |

| I hope she starts feeling better soon. A steam shower sounds like a great idea. There are probably some holistic things you could do to to make her more relaxed at night. I would use Roman Chamomile or Lavender essential oil with the steam. You could also make a small lavender pillow to place in the bed. It would help her relax and you too Last edited by Cerise; 09-17-2009 at 07:36 AM. |
