YT Addict | Disappointed in the new rat look! I took Harley to the groomer this weekend and I am sooooo disappointed with his haircut (to say the least). I was actually in shock when I saw him and didn't know what to say. I almost cried on the way home. I keep telling myself that it will grow back out but I think its going to take FOREVER....he is almost shaved! He looks like a big rat (SIGH). He had only been to this groomer once before just for a trim and he looked really cute that time so I figured I would take him back again since it is so close to home and super convenient. Maybe its PARTIALLY my fault....I did ask that she cut his body short because he has had so many mats and tangles lately and he doesn't like for me to brush him but I told her that I wanted to leave his face as full as possible to where it didn't look funny with his short coat. Well she completely shaved his top knot off, ears shaved (yes, completely gone) his fur is about 1/2 inch long all over (if that). He is a blue and tan Yorkie but now that he is shaved he looks almost white. You would not even recognize him as a Yorkie. I'm at a loss...there is nothing I can do but wait for it to grow back. I'm just so disappointed right now. |

| OH I feel your pain.... but I can assure you it doesnt really take that long to grow back.. A few months back I got the wonderful Idea to have a groomer come to my house she was supposed to be excellent with yorkie's ( my daughters finance is a groomer ) , like a fool I hired this girl because Laci doesnt behave well with my daughters fiance.... she set up in my kitchen.. I told her EXACTLY what I wanted, and put an elastic and a bow on the counter in my kitchen.. she asked me to leave the room because Laci kept trying to jump off her grooming table to get to me... WELL I came in a half our later to find a dog that didnt even look like mine.. NO TOP KNOT. , shaved it right off, made her look sooo ugly, I was crying, swearing , yellling.. I honestly wanted to cut her ponytail off.. LOL.... but It does grow back... she cut right above her eyes so short , its been about 4 months and I have a topknot with a few strays sticking out and she looks beautiful ... My heart goes out to you because I know how horrible you feel... but it will grow!!

| That happened to me once too. Needless to say, I don't take him there any more. I'm sorry this happened to you. Do you have a pic that you can share? Maybe it's not as bad as you think.

YT Addict | Ok...here is the picture. This one is not really close up but he was trying to run from me because he thought I was going to take the bottle he was playing with. I think its close enough that you can tell he doesn't have any fur! Let me know if the link doesn't work. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m.../Harleyrat.jpg |

| If he had matts thats most likely why she shaved him so short. Some groomers will take matts out and some wont but usually if you want them to do it you have to ask and they charge extra for it. I think he looks cute by the way. I like mine cut that short it is just easier to take care of

| That is just what I was thinking. It is really short, but he does look very cute that way. It is tempting to me....thinking of all the grooming time that would save mostly because mine do not like being brushed either. The funny thing is the only one who loves to be brushed and will push her way to the front of the line is my Jack Russell with hair shorter than your baby has now. But I cannot brush the Yorkie boys without doing her too. She really does not know she is not a Yorkie though.

| Unwanted or not, you're guy is still pretty handsome! His cut really reminds me of a modified schnauzer cut... Finding a really good groomer is pretty hard, and for the most part I find I have to be really really specific to get what I want. The only time I ever really managed to get a good groom my first yorkie Barry (Winston's hair hasn't gotten long enough for me to worry about this again yet) was when I made the groomer show me how short she felt I wanted it. Brought photos, and asked her to scissor or clipper a small area on the body to the length she thought I wanted. I don't know if this helped so much because I made her think about it while I was there (and therefore she remembered or had a guideline piece) or if it was because it allowed us to both get on exactly the same wave length and there wasn't any misunderstandings. It generally meant he was never dramatically shorter then I wanted, although it didn't always mean a nicely shaped face. If you manage to find that length you like, be sure to ask what size attachment they used to get it! It will be helpful the next time, because if you tell them what size attachment to use on the body you will get the exact length you want (providing they listen of course ) I am thinking she cut his head the way she did in order to make the head and face "match" since well. Its hard to keep a lot of length on the head and transition it to such a short cut on the body without it looking somewhat awkward. He is awfully short though! Perhaps she simply misunderstood what you meant by short, or just slipped up and cut closer then she should have or created a "hole" when he moved and was forced to even it out. |

YT Addict | He did have several matts around his butt and also where his harness is. He hates being brushed and I have to fight him to do it. He bites and everything...he literally hates it. I expected the fur on his body to be pretty short because I basically wanted to get all of the mats out and start over. I was more upset about the top knot, ears and face...I wasn't expecting that. I actually asked her to leave his face full. |
