| Bike running Yorkie Hi All, I have read where a lot of you bike ride with your Yorkie's riding along in the basket. My girl has tons of energy and no outlet to burn it off, I have been having her run along side of my bike when I ride. She runs about 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile then I let her rest by having her ride in the basket. She seems to enjoy the adventure. But I was wondering how long should I let her run. she never seems to want to quit! Thanks for any aany input |

| Welcome to YT. I would think a yorkie running along a bike would be very dangerous. Even though yorkies get the "zoomies" and run at warp speed around the yard or the house, this is a very short distance and that speed cannot be maintained by their little bodies safely. If you were to speed walk with your yorkie, they are already at a run and I would think that is more than fast enough and much safer. Just my opinion....

| I've biked with Jackson before and he loves it! I don't do it often, but he loves it when I do. I prefer to rollerblade with him though because you get more control, in my opinion. Jackson ran 1 mile off-leash in a big fenced in track area along side my stepdad perfectly fine and loved every minute of it! He's also over 12lbs.

| Thanks for your response, I wasn't too sure if it was a good idea because of her size, she is about eight pounds and run her 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile. When she is in a open field she will run around forever. Walking does not tire her out, wish I had her energy! |

| Lol Make sure you keep a good eye on your yorkie. They have smaller legs than we go and get worn out faster. We take our yorkies to the park and after they have the energy boom they need a brake. We let them walk some then we carry then walk....you get the picture. I know I guy that I work with. He and his wife has a yorkie about the same as our Princess (1 yr 1/2). He got her a thing I have seen new parents use to carry thier new born baby in. It's a almost like a back pack looking thing but you put it in front of you on your chest instead the back. Anyway he wears that and puts his yorkie in and rides him around on his motorcyle....I think it's one of the funniest things I have seen but his yorkie loves it. We have seem them in town and everything he just loves it.

| I think it depends on the yorkie. Genghis loves to run. The first time I brought him out to a trail I was walking and he wanted to run. We walked about 2 miles to a dog park and he playe there for about an hour and then he wanted to run back. I however was pooped and could only walk. The next time I brought rollerblades, I think he liked this much better, I carry him on the up or down hill parts cause its easier than trying to stay a safe speed with braking. I have let genghis run along side my bicycle, and he seems to like it and before I got a basket for the bike I used to put him in a sling bag and carry him that way. The basket works much better, thought it took a little whole for Genghis to want to go onto the basket. |
