| Tucker tried to bite the groomer! Help! Tucker has been to the groomer twice before with no problems. This Saturday we dropped him off and she called us a little while later and said he was impossible and she couldn't do a thing! He growled, snapped and tried to bite two people! He NEVER acts aggresively and I trust this groomer, she's done Rusty for 7 years and has a yorkie herself. She is suggesting a sedative but I'm nervous about that. She recommended an "all natural" one but I still don't know. Have any of you had this problem? What can I do? (Besides leave him looking like a little dustmop?)

| Mac & Mellie didn't actually try and bite the groomer. But one time he said they were both having major attitude problems and was unable to clip their nails because by the time he got to that point they wanted nothing more to do with the being at the groomers they wouldn't sit still anymore and just kept barking at him. They have been back twice since and they have been much better behaved. Maybe Tucker was just having an off day.

| I would try again, maybe he was just having a bad hair day and didn't want to go. Try leaving him with a toy, I do that for Princess. I don't think a sedative is a good idea, not to be groomed, just doesn't sound right. Good luck! Let us know how tings work out! Yorkies, you got to love them, good days and bad.

| I can relate!!! My little Maddie...the first time I took her to the groomer, she was wild and crazy, so one time when I was at the vet I asked if there was something I could give her to calm her so that she wouldn't be so scared at the groomer. He gave me some valium to give her and I made her an appointment and gave her the pill 2 hours before and I think the pill had an adverse effect on her because this time the groomer said she turned into the Tazmanian Devil...totally wild and crazy and biting at the groomer. She didn't get a thing done to her that day except for a bath and the groomer made it clear Maddie wasn't welcome back there. Ugh. So, I bought a pair of clippers and have been trying to do it myself. I so wanted to have a nicely groomed yorkie, but I just won't put Maddie or another groomer through it again. She sits well for me when I'm grooming her, but I think when she's in a strange place and with a stranger, she's just scared to death and fights it tooth and nail! I know there's some sort of sedative that just emits a vapor or something that is supposed to calm a dog. I've not tried it, but I remember reading about it. I know when I gave Maddie that valium...a very small dose, I felt just awful doing it, but I also trust my vet and his recommendations, but still felt rotten giving it to her. I hope you find some answers! Good luck! |

| That's a bad situation. A sedative might be a short term answer for getting your dog trimmed, but you have a serious problem there. I strongly recomend you get a behaviorist's advice to tone down the agression. |

My uncle had a cocker that they had to tranqualize to bathe and do any kind of grooming. If you can't get it done any other way and it has to be done. Maybe try it as a last resort. Sorry I couldn't be of any further help.

| I KNOW WHAT you are going through! I clip Snoodles myself, and it is a nightmare! She hates to even have you touch her feet, let alone cut the nails and hair around them. I can clean her ears, pull the hair out of them, comb her back, and cut the top of ears with a clipper, and that is fine, but with her legs and toes, it takes two or three of us to get the job done. Where all that strength comes from is beyond me! I call her CUJO on those days! GOOD LUCK! Pat |
