| Black coats and silver coats, what is the difference? I've seen yorkies that are black and tan, and then I see yorkies that are silver looking and tan. What makes them more silver looking? I have Cricket who is 10 weeks old. I'm wondering which coat she will have. Thanks All! |

| color You will get different opinions when talking color..breeders and judges do not agree..ALL you have to do is look at the colors/ shades in a show entry. Ask each breeder if they think that color is the standard blue/tan..they will for the most part say. yes. You want a SILK texture of steel blue..that is ideal. Of course some are too light and others too dark..some start out a good color and dilute too much, some never break to proper color, others fade with age, hormones and birthing. If you have to constantly de-mat, cut knots and clip down, most likely the coat is soft or cottony, not silk. The breeder should be able to look at your pup and give you an idea of adult color..they should know the line and the tendancies. In a pup, quanity, does not always mean quality silk..silk for the most part starts out a bit thinner..if the pup looks like a thick coated teddy bear ,it is usually a cottony testure and will need constant brushing. |

| What were her mother and fathers coat? That can give a pretty good indication but not written in stone!.......its all about genetics. What ever color your yorkie turns out to be will be pretty! Its kinda fun not knowing really, and since their coats dont fully mature for 2 years........you can get all kinds of variations, but my favorite is the rich gold with black, so black its blue, which I know because of my stud Duke, its gorgeous but hes only 14 months, who knows he may change. I also love the white almost silver.........it may not be a show coat but it is so darn pretty....and I am referring to a high gloss silk....I love that. | They were black and tan. No silver in the back, but I've seen so many different colors. Thanks, she has very shiny black and tan right now at 10 weeks. I can't wait to see what she will look like! |
