| Thinking of adopting an adult Yorkie We are thinking of adopting a male Yorkie. We are told he is almost 4 years old and needs to be nuetered. he has not been studded out, the owner just never got it done. I have all ready looked into getting him fixed this week. I have lots of questions.. Any advice on adjusting him to his new home? What do you recommend feeding him? What kind of toys will he like to play with? Any other things we should know would be helpful Thank you in advance |

| Congrats on your new addition! Just take it slow ,it may take a lil bit longer for an adult yorkie to adjust. Have plenty of toy options to choose from ,kong, stuffed squeaker toys ,ball etc. feed him whateve his owner has him on to avoid an upset tummy. There are plenty of great quality foods you can gradually switch him to if you prefer you can find them rated here Dog Food Reviews - Message - Powered by ReviewPost best of luck and be sure to take plenty of pics

As for adjusting to your home...I agree with Danyellm, be patient..some adapt very quickly and others take a lot of time. Just remember that you didn't live in that house with him for the 4 years of his life, so you have no idea what happened to him there. The previous owner told you that they "just didn't get around to neutering him" is such a line of bull! It's important for health reasons to have them neutered so loving owners who aren't breeding do it. That's just my opinion...not trying to offend you just give you another way of looking at it. Sorry, I'm overly suspicious of people. As for food I love Evo (get it at Care a Lot pet supply). It's top quality ingrediants and Barley thrives on it. They don't have it in puppy formula so Bijou is on Royal Canin and Eukanuba (foster used the Eukanuba, I don't like it) read the ingredants, if you can't say it, don't feed it to your doggies is my motto Toys, toys, toys is what I'd recommend. Barley loves the big stuffed animals that are my Great Pyrenees' and he loves the little ones...anything that squeeks is his motto. Bijou loves cords so we get her the rope type with stuffed animals. They all love rawhide chews. I know a lot of YTers use the Bully sticks. Keep us posted and please, ask away. We love to talk Yorkie and offer what advise we can! Oh, don't forget pictures! We LOVE them here ) Again Welcome!!!

| Gennies I completely agree with you about the nuetering issue, this is why I am so drawn to this dog. he needs me and someone who will really take care of him. I am going to go to PetSmart and look around.. I also see they like beds and need a coat. Very similar to greyhounds. |

You should buy an xpen and a crate (dogs love them and it gives them security) along with a bed. I would not buy him a coat until he has spent some time with you. Not all yorkies love to wear clothes. Take everything slow as it would appear his original home really didn't give a darn about him (case in point not neutering him) so hopefully he will settle in fairly easy but don't rush anything.

I'll be praying for him (and you) that you bring him home. Totally agree with the honeymoon period thing. Just get a toy or two, a bed and a chewy and he'll be fine with that. Too many toys can overwhelm them. Let us know how it goes. I dying to know if he's with you.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk (aka YT). You're an for adopting an older/adult dog. The youngest we ever adopted was Zeke at around a year old and Harley was around 12 (still intact, BYB S. GA?) If there is a PetSupermarket near you, you can give them a try. What to feed your "pup". I would suggest doing a YT search on "what do you feed your yorkie" or something like that. Read the labels carefully or go to the company's website and look at the lists of ingredients. I/we try to give our pups the best possible but it all boils down to what can you afford. A 5 lb bag may cost $10-15 but these are smaller dogs and that amount will last longer as your pup should digest more of the food. I have links to another "Pet" site that also talks about pet food ingredients. PM me if you would like them.

| Did you look in the how to do sections. If you still are having problems there are several YTers who are much more knowledgable than I on how to reduce the file size etc so you can post pictures. Can't wait to see his pics.
