| Part rabbit Ok, we say that toby is part serpent because of his long tongue...... but now we think hes part rabbit too! ...... today we came home and toby was OUTSIDE of his "pen"..... (we use a baby gate to close him in and it seems that he can CLIMB the gate!!!!! I am not kidding, i put him in there and two seconds later up pops his head! now i dont know what to do with him...... i guess he will need to be crated permanantly, but to do that i will need a bigger crate..... why does he have to be such a smarty pants (no wonder he wasnt making a fuss when we left him in the morning, HE WAS SNEAKING OUT AFTER WE LEFT!!!!!!!) |

| It took Carter less than a week to figure out how to scale his gate. When we have to leave him alone, we now leave him in the sunroom (that is airconditioned and heated). At least he can look outside without obstacles. At least when he was getting out, he wasn't making a mess anywhere.

| I caught Otis scaling his baby gate when he was really young!! It was soooo funny because he looked like a cross between a GI Joe action figure and a little monkey. I couldn't stop laughing, so of course I didn't get mad. Anyway, I think he's too fat now to scale it. |

| It was recommended to me to get a crate with a crated top on it too. I am SO glad I did as Sophie climbs up the side trying to get out. It is pretty funny to see how these little puppies can figure things out.

| I have often thought of Schatzie when she has been left alone if she has tried to scale her gate??!! So far she has stayed put...But after reading your posts Im thinking she might try this Houdini act herself. I should try to let her have free run of a room while being left alone just to see what she would do. (time to set up my video camera again) I have heard horror stories on Yorkies chewing up stuff in their houses while being alone and I am just not sure if i wanna take that costly chance? Junebug - your description of Otis escaping with the resemblance of a G.I. Joe action figure and a monkey cracked me up! And...Orinskye - your little Toby who escapes after the "coast is clear" cracks me up. I can just visualize him doing this and being real darned proud of himself, LOL! Smart little cookie he is! And...Carter's Mom, I wish I had a sunroom to be left in to gaze out the window and relax with all the comforts of heat/air. Sounds so peaceful!!

| The last two days when I've come home from work, Trevor has been "out" too. But I think one of the other dogs has knocked over the date trying to get to his food and treats I leave him with when I'm gone. I've put him in there for short periods of time and he's never escaped. But we have a huge back yard and since the weather has been nice I leave the back door open so the other dogs can come and go during the day and I think that's what he's been doing. He LOVES outside and he never gets tired of playing with my female rat terrier. She is such a good baby sitter and loves running through the yard and keeping him entertained. It's good for her and him When Trevor was having to stay locked in the backroom while I was at work, he would be just frantic when I would come home... screaming and holding on to my pant leg when I put him down. Since he's been loose, he just comes running to the front door with everyone else glad I'm home ready to eat So I guess I'm going to have to put a doggie door in because before too long it will be way too hot to leave the house open and then he'll really be mad that he can't run and play. He hasn't had any accidents in the house or torn up anything since he's been loose, so hopefully it will work out. Cyndie |
