| Help dog getting more adventrous My little snickers had been doing good just going outside to do his buisness, I hadn't been putting his harness on him cause he keeps biting it, he is wearing it down I would go through harnesses every couple of weeks.. Well yesterday we were out doing his buisness and then all the sudden these people were biking across the street about two houses away and it was a busy street he took off and even though I ran as fast as I could to get him I couldn't catch him he ran right out into the busy street.. THANK GOD there were no cars. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if he got hit.. So I know collars are bad for them cause of their trachea but do you think it would be ok if I got him a collar just for when I'm taking him out to do his business? Plus the harness isn't the easiest thing to get on him. I would appreciate any advice. |

| Forget the collar idea. If you get the right harness, & adjust it properly he should not be able to chew it. Maybe a trip with him, to PetSmart/Petco, & you can get some help choosing the best harness for him.

| I'm guessing your yorkie is still a pup so it sounds like he is just being playful. My boy is one and when he's excited about going out he'll try to bite his harness. I just say "no" and continue what I'm doing. Kaji does wear a collar, but that's just for his tags. Taking Snickers to Petco or Petsmart and get a harness that's the right size for him is a good idea.

| Please don't use a collar as you could do harm. Here is a harness that is guaranteed for life even if chewed. Lupine is sold on ebay and many online stores. Lupine Dog Harnesses - PupLife Intelligent Dog Supplies

| I'm probably WAY in the minority here, but I don't think a collar is THAT bad if they don't pull. But you must ensure they learn to walk properly on it with no pulling. When I take Jackson for walks, he's on a short nylon leash with a harness, but when we're going into our 3 acre backyard, I sometimes will just attach his long retractable leash to his collar because he doesn't pull on that. However; I probably also have a different prospective because my boy is 13lbs so he's larger.

| Wow! I never knew about collars being bad for Yorkies. I love YT!! Today was the first day I put a collar on Cooper. I just took it off. Will be looking for a harness today.
