| People will continue to be misinformed. l figure even if you explain alot still come away with what they want to believe. lt can be annoying at times but l don't let it bother me. You have to admit they are beautiful.

| I get asked that ALL the time...I sometimes don't always bother to explain and Just say, yeah, she's a little one'..I did explain to a couple of lovely ladies the other day when they asked me this while stopping to look at Pixie..I said that people were under the misconception that yorkies are like Poodles and come in toy, miniature and standard sizes but that actually they do not...a yorkie is just a yorkie whatever its size...they were surprised by this.

| I get this all the time... either a 'miniature' or a 'teacup' I sometimes explain, and other times, I just ignore it. It is amazing how many people are misinformed, even people that have yorkies. "Oh, I have a teacup yorkie... she's WAY smaller than yours!" I just laugh and move on. I think it makes them feel better about themselves.

| I met a lady a few weeks back walking a lovely yorkie that looked to be around 5lbs...we stopped to talk and she seemed surprised by Pixie's small size saying, "oh thats a little one...mines supposed to be a teacup or something"..I never said anything...didn't think there was much point as people will be misinformed by breeders and its not really their fault. Funny thing was her yorkie was called Pixie too! I have to say though that this lady was a bit 'offish', she actually seemed a bit bummed that her yorkie wasn't the smallest! I HATE that! she was a bit odd about it really and asked me to lift up Pixie's head so she could look at her face and asked lots of questions but she wasn't at all affectionate towards her or try to stroke her or anything even though I was stroking and talking to her yorkie...people can be strange sometimes...

| A miniature yorkie? hummm. All I lnow about a specific animal that fits this description is a minature horse> I've never heard it applied to a dog before You handeld it well. I have seen in newspaper ads from where I live that people are now trying to sell their Yorkies as "mirco Puppies. This one really bothers me . my gosh , it seems like the In thing right now, the smaller the better, and tinier . No matter what breed. AND it is popular for the non reputable breeder to profit on selling very tiny puppies . Even if it may be not in the best interest to the pups health, or genetic makeup . I cringe every time I run accross this. These so called "wonderful , experienced " breeders , are intentionally breeding smaller and smaller puppies for the sole purpose of finanical gain . It sickens me, and breaks my heart for the puppies. It does not just happen in the Yorkie breed either. It is insanity For example I ran accross a website who breeds Shih Tzu's , they fit in your hand. These babies looked to me unhealthy. SO sad.

| So far nobody has called Fancy a teacup or miniature. But since she is small (weighing a little over 3 lbs) everybody is always asking me how old is your puppy. Fancy will be 1 next month! I guess they are thinking she is only 4 or 5 months old or something.

| Just a few days ago somebody asked me if Lola was a mini yorkie. I explained no that the standard calls not to exceed 7 lbs and she is average weight for the breed I used to get asked all the time with Stormy too and I would always explain shes just a normal sized yorkie, some looked at me like I was crazy |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think people do this because the Poodle breed has three sizes, and at one time, they were as popular as the yorkie is now. There is a classification call the Standard Poodle, which is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders. The Miniature Poodle, is between 15 inches and 10 inches, and Toy Poodle, is 10 inches or under; the Toy size was nicknamed a Teacup Poodle, and most people called the toy size a teacup. Yorkies, however, have only one classification and that is the toy size, and standard for the size is 7 pounds and below. So there is no "formal" classification in size for Yorkies, just nicknames.
