| Question for the Biewer experts...? I drove out of state today to pick up a biewer boy. I ended up getting him AND his brother! I have a bit of an odd question though. Are biewers born with the markings and colors that they'll permanently have? Or can their colors "break" at a few months old, like yorkies do? The reason I ask is because I saw the parents, and they were definitely biewers. Had all the correct markings, and the breeder says the daddy was even imported from Germany. The boy I got has a white head with a bit of tan/black markings on his ears, white legs, black body, white tummy, white tip on tail. His brother is another story though. He has a black body, all-black tail, very light tan legs/feet, and his head is what confuses me.. It's black and tan, but the black color on top of his head is "breaking" and he has white color coming through, like an inch or two. And the light tan on his legs seems to be breaking into white as well. Is this common?? Shouldn't he have been born with the white markings, rather than growing them in later? I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, it's just that all of the newborn biewers that I've seen are already white and black. I'll be back with pictures. They'll speak louder than my words lol.

| Congratulations on your two boys. Many people call the Biewers "Rainbow dogs" as they can change colors and some do so many times. Most of the color changes are usually on the head. The black can break to the blue and yes, sometimes the gold and white can change as well. On the body, most of the color changing occurs on the back. While most tend to keep the black, some do break to blue. You will also see dogs break color (usually blue) where the white is. Personally, I have not seen where a black tail breaks to have a white tip nor have I seen tan legs change to white. These dogs never cease to amaze me, so I wouldn't say that it can't happen....just highly unlikely that he will end up conforming to the standard when it comes to coloring. Can't wait to see the pictures and congratulations again!

| If you do a search on here you will see pictures of newborn Biewers and also puppies which will help you with your questions. Just like Yorkies some Biewers could have color faults but it doesn't mean they aren't wonderful dogs but would be marked down in the showring. Who are your Biewers registered with? What fun you will have with these wonderful dogs.

| Welcome.. pictures would help, but until then what you maybe seeing is probably normal.. when the pups get older.. in many, the "black" turns to Blue, it can be a very light "steel" blue, and it usually starts on the head/face. The back usually stays darker. In a litter, you may have some pups that stay darker, while others turn more blue. I have not seen it turn to "white" however. On the legs, I have one girl that had a golden tan leg as a pup (this is a color fault and I was told, she could not be shown with this fault) .. as she matured, the tan became lighter, and now it is almost the same white as the other legs, I notice it is not AS white, but the casul observer would more likely than not, note even notice and say "she has 4 white legs". Good luck with your two "fellas".. your in or a treat in this "Biewer" World.. there's just no better place to be, in my opinion. Diana

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Rainbow dogs is a great description as they tend to change a great deal during those first 3 years. I have seen dark faced biewers gold out as they mature and I've seen others who stay dark. I haven't ever seen one with a black tail though. My Reggie's saddle has remained black and his coat is more soft than silk. Frazier on the other hand is turning blue and has a silk coat. Can't wait to see pictures and welcome to the wonderful world of biewers.

| Thank you! I highly doubt the 2nd boy will ever be colored to standard. The first boy's head was completely black and it all changed to white. He had an inch or two of pure white with another inch of solid black at the ends, so last night I gave him a trim and now his face and legs are white. It's funny because I haven't ever heard of black breaking to white. Oh and I won't be keeping the 2nd boy- I just couldn't leave him there with the owner, it was a weird situation.. would I describe him as an atypical biewer, or a.. carrier, or what? Pics are on their way! Uploading now..

| Rose, I thought of you as I was picking up my boy! I remember you saying that you want to own one in the future. I can't wait to see him/her when you do! (Any gender preference?) Well, my camera seems to be having a little trouble uploading. It got about halfway and then gave me an error message, but I need to bathe these little guys anyway, they're pretty dirty- pics will come later tonight!

| If born from two Biewers or a Biewer / Carrier (Splitter) breeding, he is considered a Biewer. While coloring is a part of the Biewer standard, not every one will conform to it. Of course, this won't keep him from being an amazing pet and even with showing / breeding, coloring should be taken into consideration but in my opinion, shouldn't be the be all / end all.
