| Puppy hair growth I am looking at a yorkie puppy. He is 8 weeks old and his hair is not fluffy. It laids pretty close to his body. Some of the other litter mates are starting to become a little fluffy. I have seen both parents and they are yorkies. What do you think? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | My first thought is puppy simply isn't old enough to have acquired the fluffy coat. Yorkies aren't born with fluffy coats...it grows in, by 12 weeks old...the coat will be fluffy.

| I thought that but then would see pictures of 6 week old pups that looked like they had a lot more hair. |

| I've heard that the puppies who aren't very fluffy, especially on their legs are the puppies that will have the nice silk coats as adults. |

| I have watched him for about 3 weeks now and I can see that his hair has grown a little (very little) but he is cute, his ears are standing up and is he a busy guy. I have falling in love and get him the first of September. |

| I have a dog that was very fluffy as a puppy and her coat is super cottony. It mats and is not the proper texture. My new puppy is as you have described your boy, thin, straight, not fluffy at all. I *think* she will have a super nice silky coat as an adult, it never mats (she is 12 weeks now), is starting to come in thicker but is still not fluffy at all. I prefer it to the cottony, even if it doesn't ever get to be the proper silky a yorkie should have.

| Chewbacca's brothers were fluffier When we got Chewie at 9 weeks old, his big brothers were very fluffy already. He did get fluffy as time went on. He also grew slower than the other males. My little guy is just at 4 lbs and his 2 big brothers are already each over 8lbs. The father is only around 5 lbs and is very silky. I think Chewie just genetically takes after his doggydaddy. |
