| We're expecting...but my husband doens't know it yet. This Saturday afternoon, I'll be picking up my little girl. When do you think I should tell my husband? I did something sneaky. Michael, my husband, is allergic and has asthma. I read that you can take a t-shirt, turn it inside out, and rub it on the dog for a while. I did just that to four of Michael's shirts...and he didn't know about it. He wore each shirt without a problem. Not reaction. One, in fact, is still wrapped around his pillow under the pillow case. When I told him what I had done, he was intrigued, but he still thinks he's going to be allergic. I pray he won't be. I bought the allergen reducing shampoo, the dander wipe, and the allergen control spray for the carpeting. I even bought a new vacuum cleaner that works better than the old one. I called the Yorkie breeder this morning and she said I could pick her up. It was then off to the local grain store for Diamond puppy food (what the breeder uses), puppy wee wee pads, Nutri Cal, tooth paste and brush, crate, water bottle (the breeder has a water bottle attached to the side of their wire crate), collars, toys, and leads. I'm sure I missed something there that I bought, and it was a lot of money, but I know it was a good investment. |

| My daughter has allergies and asthma and she has never been bothered by our dogs..her asthma hasn't flared up in over a year now and the only time her allergies bug her is when the pollen is up..not everyone has reactions to animals that have allergies and asthma.. I know a lady that his highly allergic to dogs and all she does is one takes med for her allergies..but she has to do that anyway..the biggest thing she said was she swept her floors everyday..never let the dogs sleep with her or get on her bed..and she did allow them on the couch but she put a blanket on it that she washed regularly. She lovedher dogs and didntwant to live without them so thats what she did.. Oh and Congrads and I'd tell him now lol |

| Oh my gosh, how exciting!!!! Please post pics! I REALLY REALLY hope your hubby has no reaction (allergy wise) and a GREAT reaction to your new little girl! Sounds like you are set to go... at least for now. You'll see how much stuff you buy as you go along. I do recommend an X-pen if you did not get one! Wait for the teething stage, keep her in the x-pen because she can and will eat your walls and baseboards! Happy Mommyhood! I miss the puppy times, they go by so quickly! My boys will be 4 years in 2 weeks!

Yorkie Yakker | my little girl & i are both allergic & have asthma also... cats are the worse, but so far ella hasn't bothered us too bad. sometimes our eyes get a little messy & a few sneezes, but nothing we can't handle for our furbutt we take allegra every day also & the worst thing for us also is the pollen. good luck & if it starts to bother him maybe he can see his allergist about shots? congrats on your new baby girl! they are truly an assest to any family

| What a clever plan; if something would have gone wrong, you could have just washed the shirts and he wouldn't have been the wiser. I am sure that if he is a nice guy, and given that your experiment went so well, he will love your new pup. It's always risky to get a new dog on speculation that all the humans in the house will be good with it. That is how I got my first Yorkie, Mr Pippin. The girl I got him from could not keep him becuase her roommates (who were paying rent) said the Yorkie had to go due to too much barking. Of course she kept him in the kennel all day when she was at work, and the little guy could hear the roommates and he wanted his freedom. What did she expect? But if there is no general concern in getting a little yipster, your experiment should have taken the major risk out of the equation. Good luck. |

| A co-worker and his wife have a Yorkie named Avery. I brought the shirts to their house. They also have Malteses and four cats. I thought for sure Michael would show some kind of reaction because he's allergic to cats, but nothing. I think his new allergy meds (Singular and Claritin) are working. He's also taking Advare. |

| Hi! How exciting!!! Don't worry, he won't be allergic! I have so many people in my family with EXTREMELY bad asthma (my grandpa was on an asperator the whole time I knew him) and yorkies are the ONLY dog we can own because of their dander. Have fun with your new little furkid, I suspect your husband will fall in love in a way he never has ever before and you will too just by watching him!!!
