| Help...Need advice! Hey guys! I know "yorkies" are not the best potty trained furbabies.. Peanut does OK, I hate to admit this but he is 2 and still have accidents! Not very often but it happens a lot..if that makes sense..When your furbabies go potty on the floor or somewhere they are not suppose to...How do YOU guys tell them they are bad.. I don't believe in spanking my baby or rubbing his nose in it! He is too precious to me to hurt him...I will just take him over to the spot and tell him that he is bad and take him over to his pad..he knows he is bad I can see it in his eyes..but then I will walk away and like a minute later he comes over to me with the "yorkie puppy eyes" and I will give him and give him hugs and kisses I cant help it!!! He esp will go pee pee on the bathroom rugs!! I recently got a baby gate so now he is blocked to go over that way. But now my dh has a excersise machine and he loves to poop behind it anyways I was just curious maybe I am doing it wrong...I was trying to get different ideas...

| I don't do much to Tinky since she's only 5 months but I look at her and cross my arms and say [sternly] "Shame on you.". Then she starts to get the idea I'm upset with her and acts cute And once she pees on her pad I praise her like she's just won the lottery.

| If I actually SEE Maddie squating and going potty, I give a firm "no" and pick her up and put her where she should go potty and if she does, give her a reward/ If I don't see her doing, I don't do anything about it. I'm sure she already forgot what she did and it was probably my fault she did a no-no b/c I wasn't watching her close enough. Your puppy probably doesn't know what she did wrong and is giving you that sad look because she knows that you are upset with her, but isn't sure why. That's my opinion, anyways. Good luck. I am going thru the EXACT same thing! |

| Dogs do not understand if you scold them "after" the fact...you need to catch them in the act to be effective in trying to communicate that. After having three lil' girls...I know things improved dramatically in the potty training dept once I began working from home and was here 24-7 to take them out to do their potty. I also leave a piddle pad out during the night for "just in case" but, during the day...it's a rarity we have an accident. That's not to say it doesn't happen...it does. Keeping them in a gated area when I am not able to be right there with them helped too. They do not have free access to the house which also cuts down on surprise packages being left behind furniture, too. I've learned to just accept the oopsies and a jar of those Clorox Wipes and it's cleaned up in a second. My Phoebe has a lil' problem tho'...if she hears a loud noise & get's scared...she will actually shoot out a lil' pooplet before she runs for cover... Good luck in your potty training!
