| question about a tiny pup Hi I have a girl yorkie Lacey who is now 2 yr old and weighs about 4 lbs and a girl Maltese who weighs about 3.5 lbs but now lives with my ex husbank..bacK in May I went to see another little girl yorkie so Lacey would have a playmate..I saw the parents of the puppy (there were only 2 in the litter) and the Mom was about 2.5 lbs (much to small to breed) and the dad was even smaller I told the lady I would not be picking her up until she was 12 weeks so she could stay with her mother...I gave her a deposit and 2 days ago I went to get Ella...she is now 13 weeks.Well she was just beautiful, very healthy looking, and spunky...although she was so small and when I got her to the vet yesterday she weighed in at 10 ozs..and yes we triple checked...the vet says she is just very tiny but as far as she could tell very healthy (no worms, palete is closed and fontenel is closed) and so far her hips look fine...she is free eating so I can fatten her up and is doing well, But I am worried about her small size..the vet says in her experience with parents that small she probably wont hit 2 lbs full grown...does anyone here have a tiny one? (I never call them teacups) and what do I need to look out for? I do carrry nutracal just in case...any advice is so appreciated.. I am posting 2 pictures of her and one is with my iphone so you can see just how small she is... Stacey mom to Lacey, Lily and Ella |

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | I had a small male yorkie, Max, his last weight was 2 lb 9 oz at 14 months. I free fed him sio whenever he got hungry, he could help himself. With another dog in the house you will want to just be aware of where she is and what she's doing. Do not let her jump off of furniture because her legs are very delicate and if they break you might looking at surgery for plates and pins. I gave him the same treats that I gave my other yorkie. When they are small they can go almost anywhere with you, just make sure you have food and water on hand. You are gonna have fun with her!

| Did I read that right? She's 13 weeks old and only weighs 10 ozs? Holy moly! That little girl isn't even going to reach 2 lbs! I'm sure glad that you had the breeder keep her until 12 weeks. I'm just amazed! I don't think that I've ever heard of a Yorkie so small. I'm glad that you are aware of Nutrical. I think that's most important with such an itty bitty thing. Also, as the other poster suggested, no jumping! Missy took a little jump off my hand only 4" off of the ground when she was a puppy. She broke her leg and it ended up being a VERY expensive surgery (3,500). Wow - I'm still just amazed that your little girl is so tiny. I hope that you share lots of pics so that we can watch her grow up.

| You have a bell on her! Good for you! Both my dogs have bells ... it's a good way for me to keep track of them in the dark. However, I noticed that it's on a collar. May I make a suggestion? When Bella was little (she's a BIG girl now at 3.5 lbs.), I used a ferret harness on her. The harness fit her perfectly. Put the bell on that. Or, get a piece of elastic, put the bell on, then stitch the ends together. She's such a tiny little thing - everything's so close to the surface - please don't risk damage to her trachea. She's a beauty - take very good care of her and love her to pieces (yeh, like I have to tell ya to do *that* ) |
