| Female yorkies and periods. I just did a google search to see if I can come up with the answer. One post on yahoo answers, said they get their first period around 8 months old. I clicked another link and it said anywhere from 11 to 13 months, and that you can start to see signs 2 weeks before. As I mentioned in my other thread she was a gift so I dont know exactly how old she is. But we are guessing she either 8 or 9 months old. My husband has a male (mut) dog and we've been noticing that hes been all up in her area and my husband calms to have seen the male trying to have sex with her. Anything specific I should be looking for as far as signs? Or are the months correct as far as when they get their first period? Thanks

| Molly just went into heat yesterday. I have never had a female dog, so I don't have experience, but I did notice the past week her nips looked more swollen. She has also been following me around more than usual. Also, her private part started looking swollen a couple days ago. I was actually worried that she was pregnant! I have only had her for 4 weeks, my terrier mix I have is fixed, but I didn't know if she got pregnant before she was given to me. |

Average time for a yorkie to come into heat is anywhere between 8 and 10 months of age. Each yorkie is different though, some can go into Heat as early as 6 months and others as late as 16 months. Keep all male dogs away from her, she's much to young to even allow her to breed. The whole process takes 21 days. Boys are your indicators, they can tell a girl is coming into Heat 2 to 3 weeks before the process starts. The third week is when she is breedable.

My furkids Donating Member | I have 2 females. One is 4yrs old the other is 3yrs old. Sadie (older one) had her first heat at 9 months old. Lillie didn't come in heat until she was almost 18 months. Lillie is smaller than Sadie. I don't know if this made the difference. They are both spayed. I would suggest, unless you plan on breeding, that you have her spayed as soon as possible. You don't want any accidents to happen. Especially where he is trying to mount her.. JMO And...WELCOME TO YT!!

Remember lil girls do hump and are very clean with themselves, so the constant licking could be the result of that. Check her urn, make sure there is no discoloration in it. If it is licking to the point of being overly done....maybe you should have her checked by vet....possibility of an infection of some sort.
