| What kind of yorkie is she? My brother in law bought this yorkie off of one of his friends that no longer could take care of her for me. Shes already 8/9 months old. The girl we got her from said she was a teacup but that obviously isnt correct. I think she is a toy. but i am not sure how to tell the different breeds apart. |

| There is only one kind of yorkie. She is a yorkie and that is about it. Yorkies come in different sizes I have seen one that weighed only 1 1/2 lbs. Too small in my opinion. I have a 3 lb yorkie, a 4 lb yorkie, a 5 lb yorkie and a 6 lb yorkie. They are all yorkies. Tea cup is just a word to say the dog is tiny. The standard for a yorkie is 5 to 7 lbs. My favorite size is 5 lbs but I love them all. The very tiny ones are usually delicate. I have to be very carefull with my 3 lb boy. I hope this helps. Your dog is a yorkie and is a cutie. Enjoy! :-) |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | She looks like a yorkie!! The standard is 7 lbs and under, I believe. Glad you found us. She is a cutie. Looks like she may have a silky coat as an adult, which is good.

| I'm sure there will be plenty on here to explain to you about the teacup word. Yorkies. There aren't different types of yorkies... they only vary in size and looks. Kind of like humans.. we vary in size, color, shape.. The standard is up to 7lbs... however, just because a yorkie reaches over 7lbs doesn't make it a different type. BTW.. your baby is a cutie!

| Yep everyone has basically said it! A yorkie is a yorkie! Teacup is often a term used to sell yorkies for more money.... There are some yorkies that get to be like 15 lbs and stuff (some on here even!) and they are still just a yorkie. Same name as the little two pounders! But we just have to accept that people use the word "teacup" and "tiny" and "toy" and "pocket" and other silly names. They dont know better but now you do! Your little pup is sooooo cute

| What a cuttie! If you look at all the classes of dog breeds (sporting, working, hound, terrier, herding, toy, non working, and misc group) yorkie, although are terriers, fall into the "toy" group. That is where you probably think of them as "toy" in size, where in reality that is their group. If I am not mistaken, and someone correct me if I am, yorkshire terriers are the only terriers that are not in the terrier group but in the toy group. Also, under yorkshire terrier, there is not sub category, so "teacup" is not an officially recognized word. Just any yorkie that is 7 lbs or less is standard, but they can be much bigger than that and there is nothing wrong with that. If it is quite big, it may be part silky terrier. And to add even more confusion LOL, yorkie coats are described as either silky or cottony, so you could have a purebred yorkie with a silky coat and call it a "silky yorkie" and people may think you have a silky/yorkie mix. LOL confused now? good. Oh PS the green reflection in the eyes means silky (in texture not breed) coat. Usu blueish reflection means cottony coat.

| thanks everyone. I guess I gotta go see how much she weighs. Lol. Is there any way to tell how old she is? we think she is about 8 or 9 months old. when we got her the girl told us she was 6 months. so we were just adding on to that as we dont know when exactly she was born. |
