| One more ? about spaying I am so sorry to keep posting about Lexi but I am so confused right now. Most of you know Lexi's situation right now so my ? is Lexi can NOT get pregnant so how important is it to have the other ovary removed? She is not bleeding with her heat cycle and probably never will, and even if she does it will probably be so little I would never notice. Also is there a big risk of her getting cancer when she is older if I don't have it removed, and what are the odds of her not getting cancer, are they good? I am going to do some research but you are all so knowledgable and helpful I wanted to ask here first. I also want to think you all for all you support. I'm sure most of you know that I post on almost every thread in my yorkie but rarely post in this forum. I'm not snotty or stuck up I have just always tried to be careful about giving to much info online. So by just posting how wonderful everyones babies are I am not talking much about me. (hope that makes sence) Anyway, my point is I have never relied on so many people for answer and I just want to thank you all for being there and apologize for not being as supportive as you all have been. You are all so wonderful and I really do value every opion... Thanks again,

| I have been following your story and I think it is terrible that the vet did not get both of the ovaries during the surgery. If it were Jewels I would not put her through a second surgery. If she cant get pregnate I would just deal with the heats with bellybands.

| First of all, my thoughts are with you and Lexi. I have found this to be the most wonderful resource for questions, venting, laughs and support. I guess if I was in your situation, with the info I have read - I would do it again. I know it seems like it would be so hard on your little Lexi, but if it helps to lower the cancer risk. JMO though. As long as you have weighed all of your options and feel comfortable - whatever decision you make is the right one. Don't second guess!! Best wishes!!! Hugs from Maddie

| That is a question I honestly think you should sit down and talk with the vet about. I have read about a lot of the older "ladies" developing breast tumors and I suppose ovarian cancer is a risk as well. I don't know what to tell you. I believe you should talk to them and get their knowledge and consider the whole picture.

| Thank you all so much, I read very little and so far all says that every heat they going into ups the risk of breast tumors/cancer. If that is the case I am going to have to put her though another spay. I just can not be responsiable for my presiouc baby getting any kind of cancer.

| I'm gonna give you my thoughts, but it's just what I'd do. - I'd wait until I KNEW I wanted to go through it again. If her heats are too bad, or whatever. You don't HAVE to have it done again for pregnancy, and my vet says you can have it done anytime. Why not have it done when you are having her teeth cleaned or something else important she needs to be "asleep" for at the same time? Just MY idea. I hate having them put to sleep. I'd be furious if that had happened to Sabrina - but I wouldn't change vets either. He's too nice and too good and anyone can make a mistake (?????).

| Well, the cancer tumor thing is a real concern. And since you say they are going to have her out - I'd go for it and be done! Too bad it's so soon since the last time. Poor little traumatized girl. I know mine was the first time. Best of luck to you both. Just a shame for BOTH of you. I do know that after all that, and she heals up and is okay, I'd take her back just for a visit. I'm going to take Sabrina in next week just to say HI to the receptionist. She's gotten to where she thinks everytime we show up at the vet it means something bad (and she's right). Aren't we silly about these babies?

| That is a good ideal, I'll have to take her back just because. I think 3-4 months is to soon also, I don't know though maybe these test will come back and they will say that's not it at all. (I doubt it but can hope) I'm keep telling myself just don't think about it til Monday(way easier than said). Thanks for your help I really do appreciate it.

| If Lexi were mine I would do it for sure, especially if it can be done when she's needs to be put out anyway. I just recently lost my little Tori (a silky X) to cancer. I had never bothered to have her spayed because her heats just weren't that big of a deal, no spotting or anything hardly at all. But now just the thought that I might have increased her risk of getting cancer is very hard to deal with. I would just make sure I was comfortable with my choice of vets and get it done. |
