| How do I prevent my puppy from chewing up Pee-Pad I left my puppy home alone for the first time (I was gone for 6 hours), and he chewed his pee-pad to bits. I cleaned up the mess and ran a 30 minute errand he did the same thing. How do I keep him off the pee-pad without de-training his potty. If I train him not to stand on the pee-pad because I'm afraid he'll chew it up, I'm afraid he will stop using it. I have him well trained to use the pee-pad at 11 weeks old and he's pretty receptive to me saying no. I'm also afraid of coming home and finding him dead from eating pee-pads. What do I do? |

| I have a holder for Lucy's pee pads. They work, she can't get at it to tear it apart.

If he can't pull it out of it's holder, he's manage to just chew it up from the center...=( Keep in mind, he doesn't do that if he already had a small piddle in it. And he definitely won't do it if he peed on it twice. I don't want him standing on the wet spots when he gets excited and I don't want him to chew on it when it's clean, how can I train him to leave it alone and use it when he needs to? | |

| Sadie chewed her pads during the first weeks of training as well. I used the Petsmart holder and if I caught her chewing would scold her then give her a Nylabone to chew. I do not use greenies due to choking, but the flavored Nylabones are great. Try to make him potty before you leave then leave that pad down. Sadie is almost 6 and I still take her to the pad before I leave the house...habit I guess. Good Luck! They can be so stubborn to housetrain! |

| My 3 puppies did the same thing. We wound up giving them an old white towel to potty on and had no problems since then. |

| Bella Mia shredded hers NO MATTER what. We even duct taped them to the floor. She would shred whatever she could get a hold of and pee on the floor. She shredded any paper material she could find, napkins, toilet paper, pee pads, newspaper. She has not (surprisingly) shredded her puppies pee pad. She actually leaves it alone. 1 of the puppies tries to shred it but he really doesnt have many teeth yet.

| Stella did that too, I think it was out of boredom and "rebelling" when I left her alone for longer than she liked or for multiple short periods a day. I'm pretty sure she also liked the crunchy sound the pad made when she tore at it. So, I got her a toy that made similar sounds when she played with it, and I started putting the wee wee pad attractant on the pad when it was clean and then she left it alone. I think since it already smells like she pottied there she didn't want to touch it. The stuff does stink a bit, but if you just use one or two drops it's not terribly noticeable. And, I only had to do that a few times before she left it alone completely. |

| My puppy is 16 weeks and she shreds her potty pads to pieces when I'm gone. I tried using bitter apple, i even bought a pad holder and she still shreds them to pieces. she goes to each corner ripping them out. Even if she has potty on them she still chews them up and then has no where to potty in her playpen. It so frustrating coming home and have to not only pick up all the little pieces i have to clean up all the pee and poo that she leaves everywhere. I have no idea what to do. I'm going to try a different brand of the bitter apple and hope it helps because at first it did but not anymore. Someone please help! Hope she grows out of this! |

| Through trial and error, I found that Pepper Jack only trashes the ones that are not quilted. He may drag the quilted ones around once in a while, but only chews up the ones that have all that loose filling in them. That type makes such a mess. Once I used them up, I never bought that type again. Now the cat thinks anything she happens to find on a puppy pad needs to be covered up immediately. She will scratch at them until they are waded up and whatever was offensive to her is hidden. I have to be quick to change the pad before the cat gets to it.
