| My girl has a very cottony coat. You can tell the difference if you shine a flashlight in their eyes. You can also look in a picture when they are looking at the camera. If the eyes shine back green, then they have a silky coat. If it is more goldy, then it's cottony. Also, a cottony coat doesn't seem to turn the steely blue color but will stay more black as the dog gets older. Cotton coats also knot very easily and it's hard to keep them long since there is so much upkeep. Both are pretty but have their pros and cons...also there's personal preference! If you search under 'cotton coat' there should be several threads that come up! Either way, your baby is beautiful!

| Oh, yeah...there is also something called a modified coat and that is kinda hard to pinpoint, too. Try searching that also.

| Your baby is a DOLL!! I can't tell what kind of coat she has by the pic, but if she doesn't mat & you're able to grow her hair, maybe she's silky. If you take pics w/a flash, sometimes you'll see the 'eye shine' better. I've heard of some Yorkies still changing colors after 3 years old.

| Silky Your puppy looks more silky than not-- Cottons grow differently--their hair is curly and hard to brush. Long, straight hair is silky. However, she might be in between. I have three cottons, three silky, and one somewhere in between as well. She is definitely not a cotton though. Last edited by AKCpurebredYT; 07-28-2009 at 04:09 PM. |

| I wanted to say that I, too, was on YT about this same issue when Isla was 5 months - 10 months. She seemed fluffier, softer and not as thin a coat as the silkier dogs, however she didn't knot at this point. I would put her in sweaters and everything and she never really had one. That's what confused me. But then this summer everything changed. She turned one in June and about Mayish when it turned nice and she was outside more her hair was like a magnet to sticks, grass, etc. and all of a sudden it was a knot all the way to her skin. What a mess! That's when she had her first grooming appt. It was hard to cut her hair after trying to get it long for all that time! Judging from your pics, though, your pups hair doesn't seem as fluffy as Isla's was. Try to get a good photo with her looking at the camera with a flash and see if it's green or gold. It should be a good sign either way.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I can't tell by the picture much but she kinda looks like my Niyah and she is silky. I put a dress on her everyday so I have to comb it so it doesn't get knots in it before putting a dress on.

| I posted a thread in breeders section about coats and they were very helpful. You might want to look there. It is called "Hard Coat and Silky" it is one of the first threads on there right now.

| To me she looks like a silky with some of her puppy fluff still on the tips of her coat. Has she had a cut yet? And MY GAWD is she ever BEAUTIFUL! Cutest little face ever, and so teensy tiny
