| Help!! My parents won't allow the dog in their home! We're getting a puppy, and in a few weeks we'll be going to stay with my parents for the county fair for three nights. They just told me that dad will not allow the dog in the house, i've asked mom to beg him to at least let her in the back porch area inside the house, offered my krate and kennel and baby gates. offered to play with her outside all the time and never in the living room.... we'll see what he says.. IF he says no, what do i do, do i call reletives and ask to stay with them, or do i just stay home and not see my family. Leaving Sadie at home alone or boarding her at such a young puppy age is NOT an option for me. Help please! |

YT 500 Club Member | Could you stay at a possible pet friendly hotel? I know you don't want to your puppy to stay there but maybe it would work if you just brought the puppy with you during the day?I hope that helped somewhat and maybe your dad will say yes

| Could your breeder keep the puppy until after the Fair? Why does your Dad not want the dog in the house? Will he always feel this way? Stay with relatives or a hotel but please do not leave this new puppy outside or in your car.

| I would check with relatives or I would check into a pet friendly hotel. Either way your dad will realize that Sadie is now a part of your life, but that you want them all to be. You have to do what is best for you and her, she is now your responsibility and taking the best care of her is up to you! You will be fine!

| My parents were the same way but once they realized that they couldn't see me unless the dog came too, they got over it. Mom actually buys her stuff now! haha Good luck...I know what you are going through. You might have to just not go and then they will realize that in order to see you the dog comes too! |

| Hopefully they come around--I would worry about some jerk breaking into the room and stealing her if left at a hotel. My MIL doesn't like dogs, but she allows my yorkies in her house bc she knows I won't leave them anywhere without me over night. |

| We can't afford a hotel I'm just hoping that my daddy will change his mind, he always seems so happy around my aunt's yorkie who comes into my granny's house all the time, maybe i can stay with granny, or maybe at auntie's other house, i dunno i'll ask around and we'll see, i just want dad to get used to the idea of Sadie being with us for the next 12 years or more...they'll be kids and they'll be us and with that there will be Sadie as long as i can help it |

| Please try and stay with relatives. I don't like the idea of leaving a puppy in a hotel room alone. And I would not want the puppy to have to stay on the porch. I hate to say it, but if it were me and I could not come up with a good option, I would not go. I know you want to be with your family, but now Sadie is part of your family too. That's just my opinion.

| don't worry i won't be going to a hotel and the back porch i mentioned is inside the house, it's like a tiled room with the pantry cabinets in it, leads to the outside, but it's totally inside... |

| I don't think I'd be going home and I'd be sure to tell them why.

| Sadie's going to be about 9-10 weeks at that time if I remember correctly. Since you asked our opinions, if it were me, I'd just stay home and miss this time around. Many won't travel etc., with their pups until they've had all their shots and the excitement would be a lot for a pup. Not to mention the stress of house training in someone else's home. edited to add: Hopefully you'll have years to get your father used to the idea and accepting of the pup. May have more luck once she's housetrained and a well-mannered member of the family. If you feel you must go then, yes, stay with relatives or in a hotel.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | personally i'd stay home. She'll be really young and i wouldn't want to take her out without her having all her distemper boosters.

As I mom to adult children, I have to confess I wouldn't be too thrilled to have a brand new unhousebroken puppy come for a three day visit. I bet your dad will feel differently when Sadie is older and has proper house manners. At that age, I would be very worried about stress triggering hypoglycemia. 9-10 week old Yorkie puppies should still be with their mothers. It would be much safer to stay home and keep her quiet. | |

| you are probably right, i think we'll see how she does with us first and foremost, i was thinking by 10 weeks we might just be starting the 10 minute car rides and going to my parents would be an hour long car ride that she might not like too well...if we decide to go, my aunt said we can stay at their "hunting lodge" which is an old church that they turned into a home that they stay in during hunting seasons, just so ya know, my granny lives across the street from the hunting lodge so we'd be over there plenty and granny always let auntie's doggie in the house, so she'd be good with us too i think... i'd basically keep Sadie with us, and not out and about with other people, but yea i think we'll just have to see and maybe wait until she's older before traveling....probably best!! |
