| poops when scared--please help! Do any of your yorkies poop this soft mush poop when they are scared? Lola has been doing it lately and I cant understand why? I had her in the office with me a few weeks ago and two clients were yelling at one another and she started to shake and then poop oozed out of her butt. Like when your squeezing playdoh. So it was a mess!! I had to bathe her bottom half. I was told by my cleaning lady that Lola does do that at times! When we would tell her sternly "NO" if she peed on the carpet...the minute we put her on the wee wee pad, she would poop! My cleaning lady just cleaned it up and thought I Knew. Daycare said that she does it and thought I knew! If the puppies are rough housing too much and a trainer comes in and yells stop at the puppies, she shakes and poops! Why is this and how do I stop this? Its a mess and smells worse than her normal poop! We dont scold her, but sometimes we have to speak to her sternly and I dont think she likes it very much. This morning I was in a rush and we just had our walk (she pooped and peed) and then she was giving me a hard time and didnt want to get into the elevator and I had a package in my hand so I said "LOLA" in a tone that she would understand that I was serious and she got on the elevator and sat her butt on the floor and looked at me and I was like "good girl" and then when she got up to get off the elevator, there was that mushy poop again! Is she being mean or is she scared? when we were potty training her in the beginning and would say "No" to her, she would sometimes roll onto her back to give us her tummy..so I thought that was her way of saying sorry and she sometimes does that when she makes a mess of her playpen and I just look in it and not say a word...she will roll on her back and of course I melt and rub her tummy, but this poop is all too gross and has to stop! where is it all coming from???? Sorry so long! |

| That nasty poop is some kind of fluid that builds up in the anal glands. Most dogs release it when they poop. Others need it expressed by a groomer or vet. Some can do it themselves. If it has a funky fishy odor then that is your problem. I don't know how to stop her from doing it but if you have it expressed it might help to stop it.

| How often does she need to have it released? I got her in March and only brought her to the groomers once since I had her. Does something happen when she is upset or scared that allows the anal glands to release itself like that? |

| Sometimes they will just leak on their own. Gross. Sometimes they get all tense and scared and will secrete it. Maybe like a watery fart. I think it needs to be done once a month. My Yorkies don't have a problem with it but my Pug needs to have them expressed once a month. Sometimes if I forget and he will fart to remind me. OMG!

| I have never had this problem with my dogs in the past... but let me tell you male guinea pigs need it done on a daily basis. I had no idea this happened to female animals as well. Wow, what an education I am getting on this site. LOL!
