Thor's Human Donating Member | Do you ever get funned out? I just took Thor for a ninety minute jaunt in the park. I walked around, he sprinted around me. Now we're home, and he is STILL dying to play! He doesn't really play by himself - he needs a human involved. I must confess that during our park time I was counting the minutes until we left. I try to go to different parks for some variety, we do hikes on the weekends, and I do love him with all my heart... just, um, how do you keep the spice going? I enjoy watching him enjoy himself, and I like to play fetch with him and tug of war, etc. I just wonder sometimes, how many times can I throw the ball and watch him bring it back? Also, just curious, how much undivided time and attention do you give your dog per day?

| I was really bad at not playing enough with Marley. That's where my DH came in handy. She is a really laid back dog but I still felt guilty when she would just be laying there looking at me like " Geez you're boring". That's why I got another dog. To keep her company during the day and to keep up with her tempo. I used to get bored with play time too, but now I can watch them play together and I enjoy it so much more. I never really gave Marley undivded time. I would play with her on an off all day. Geez that make me sound horrible.

| I also sometimes got bored with playing, but that was only when we started playing. As soon as we get going, it is so entertaining. I don't walk my doggies as regularly as I should as we live in the city and I have classes from 9 to 4. When I am gone, I leave them to play - June is big enough to be trusted. Not that I can say the same for Cash, but anyway. June keeps him busy. I must say, getting a second one has let me off the leash for play most of the time. Now, all I basically have to do is throw the ball or initiate play. If I start playing with one of them, the other comes and tugs at the ears of the one I am playing with. And so, they start to play. I am always busy, so I have a few suggestions for when you can't or don't want to play. Get a trick ball! There is one that is a Kong, a dental toy and a trick ball in one. It is a bit expensive, but Cash went crazy for his. Sadly, my parents' staffies destroyed it. Anyway, get a trick ball that they can roll around and play with. I also love training them - this is never a hassle for me as I use a clicker and they love it. So, either get another pup or get a trick ball. Good luck!

| Sometimes I will feel bad if Jackson seems bored and he will just go lay down and go to sleep in his little bed.... but I try my best let him do as much as possible, so then I don't feel too bad. There's only so much you can do, ya know? He's my only dog but I live at home with my parents one dog and they will play so thankfully they have each other when I'm not in the mood. Or I'll give him a bully stick or a bone, lol. Also, Jackson (and most of the doggies on YT!) have a pretty darn good life no matter what compared to other dogs I know! Some dogs are stuck in a crate 8-10 hours a day, owners get home, let them out in their backyard and that's it, etc... so that makes me feel better too. Jackson lives a great doggie life, lol. I try to take him to the dog park once a week now at least. I take him on walks (we live in the "country" with the farm behind us and all) so I have to drive to a neighborhood to walk him, and sometimes I just don't feel like it, but I know he needs it. So I do that usually 3x a week, a nice 45 minute-hour walk in different neighborhoods. I'll bring him into Petsmart or Petco once every few weeks or so. Whenever I go somewhere that I can bring him I do... my dad's fenced in yard with his two dogs, my grandma's with hers, etc, he comes along. Even if I just have to ride to the bank if I know that's the only place I'm going, I let him come for the ride and smells. And we have this routine, usually every night around 7pm, he will be ready to play some fetch, so I get his squeaky toy and we play fetch for 10 minutes. He's definitely a very happy dog! lol.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Having 3 they occupy themselves a lot of the time. But Roxie being the youngest gets bored and you can see her looking for trouble. Then I usually get down and throw some toys and then the other 2 will join in and I can sit back!

| I do my best to keep Buddy occupied but I get pooped too before he does I sit in the am from 6:30-7:00 playing with him while trying to come alive drinking coffee. I walk him 4x daily from 15-25mins each time. After dinner I sit again with him and play for about 1/2 hrs at which time he starts to chill around 7:30. Being gone during the day I do my best to give him the attention which he craves. I throw the ball from the bathroom while brushing my teeth, throw it from the bathtub if taking a bath and throw whatever he brings to me from the recliner when I'm in it. It's never ending. Weekends I'm unusally on the floor in whatever room I happen to be in playing with him because he's jumping up on me to get me to the floor. Where ever, whenever he demands to be played with I stop and play with him. I wish he had a sibling to fill in for me. Maybe one day. |

| After Ellie's rare walks, she walks in exhausted, gets a drink and lays down. She loves fetch with her squeaky balls, but gets tired after awhile. We don't play nearly enough though. I do start to feel guilty when she goes to take a nap out of boredom. She doesn't get very much undivided attention from me (unless disturbing her naps to play with her ears and feet counts), but she is with me/on my lap/in the same room for most of the day. Like right now she is napping under my arms as I type. She can't have bones or anything, so that's a bummer. Kongs only entertain her for just so long and treat balls are a hit, but she gets sassy with them and I can't get the thing cleaned as well as it should be, so she hasn't played with it in a long time.

| Well... Anakin and Bella have one last shot at the end of the month and then we are going to walk them a lot. But right now we have an xpen when we are away. I take them out for about an hour in the morning before work and a few after work. Jer comes home in the middle of the day and plays with them for a few hours. We are moving and won't be so far away from where we work so we can't wait. So let's see, one hour in the morning, about 3 hours with Jer during the day, and about 3 hours when I get home. So at least 7 hours a day when we both work. The days we have off they are out all day playing with us. We are going to start getting heavier on their obedience training, and we might even take them to puppy school. When we play it is mostly who can kiss mom first, who can get the highest on mom, who can kiss mom the most and ring around mom... They play with toys and tug at one another and are learning to fetch. We also use play time to train... So far we have come (well most of the time) sit ( Anakin seems to think he is suppose to lay down) their names, no... And we are working on lay down and a few others. My babies are growing up. They are already 4 1/2 months!!!

Thor's Human Donating Member | When I have Thor in a really good routine, which is 1-2 hours outside every day, he's tired enough that he doesn't care if I want to run errands by myself or not. Lately I've been busy, and he does a little dance on his back legs every time he thinks we might be going out. It's cute, but I also feel really guilty. I really believe that a tired dog is a happy dog. Just sometimes I wish he got tired a little faster. Sigh. I must admit it's been really good exercise for me too. Maybe it's just because I've been busy with work and the weather wasn't that nice yesterday. It's so gorgeous in SF most of the year, it's great to have Thor as an excuse to go outside. I'm also a little bummed because he looooooooooves running around my office, and we are moving into a smaller space. I think I may need to start jogging with him.

i think you are a really good mama, and you spend a lot of time with thor. (plus you are super lucky to be able to bring him to work!) i am with milu all day, but at the same time, milu is not really a dog dog, she doesn't really play that much or required to play very much. she is a love bug but independent at the same time. i would like her to have a sibling, i think she would really enjoy that. and perhaps the new doggie can show her how dogs are suppose to behave around a ball. (milu doesn't know how to fetch, she just runs after the ball and swats at the ball like a cat) maybe thor wants a sibling? hehe

Thor's Human Donating Member | I am dying to get Thor a sister, but I'm waiting until his social skills get a bit better. Right now, he feels entitled to sniff any passing dog's butt, but he gets all offended if they take the same liberties. I do think that's a big part of it, Thor can't have fun without me. I can't even go to the park with him and chilll while he plays - he doesn't like to run around unless I'm up and going around with him. Or he starts harrassing people with food and I have to call him away every ten seconds. I'm hoping that maybe in another year he'll be more playful with other dogs. I'm also going to take him to obediance classes, which I think will be good for bonding, but I'm not sure if they will be a substitute for daily exercise, or in addition to. I'm thinking the latter.

does thor know any tricks? it's really fun for me to do tricks with milu. i do think it is bonding, cause it's stuff you can do together, and to really interact. i wanted to sign milu up for dancing with your dog class. but i guess due to the economy, they had cancel and no longer offered that class...
