| Help. Brought home new female. I have had my male Petey since Sept. He is 1yo. He is playful and wears me, my husband and son out with sock play. I figured he needs a playmate. I would like to have puppies someday and some of my friends and family say they want one if Petey is the daddy. So I did some looking in the papers and on the internet. I passed on one I looked at even tho her kennel was clean. The dog was not. I found a woman who is moving into a condo and is selling her dogs and getting out of breeding. She had an almost 2yo female who has had one litter. She was in heat about 2 months ago but was not bred. She also had a female puppy 13-15 weeks old for sale. I had a hard time deciding which dog to choose. They were about the same price. I decided on the older female. The owner said that she is paper trained but prefers to go outside. She will be in heat in few months. She had a better coat than I think the puppy will have. Draw backs on the puppy is that I just got Petey out of the chew on everything phase. She will need close attention to house breaking and I am going out of town for a few days at the end of the month and it will be a year before I could breed her. I get the adult female home and she pees in the house. That is okay. My son let her right into the house after the long drive home. I would have let her explore the yard and relieve herself 1st, but I was carrying some other things in. But I haven't caught her going outside ( when I can get her off the porch!) and I haven't found anything in the house. She has eaten and drunk very little. I let her sleep on the bed w/me the 1st night. She peed where she lay. The next night she slept on a dog bed on the floor next to me. She did not wet it. She is reluctant to get off the porch. I am trying to let her out separate from Petey. She has nothing to do with Petey. I can't get him to leave her alone. He is so distracted he is not eating or drinking either. He is very tiny (less than 4 lbs) and can't afford to loose weight. Will she ever come around and play with him? That was my main objective. She is an attractive and sweet dog.But her nature is so different than Petey's. Will she ever warm up to us. She stays under furniture most of the time. Did I make the wrong choice. Puppies that I hand raise are always good natured and well adjusted. How can I get Petey to give her space and not have his nose up her rear. He has been around my mother's female Peke and didn't behave this way, but she was spayed. Does that make a difference? TMI I'm sure and lots of ??? forgive me. |

| Hopefully they adjust to each other. Things will be different as you now are going in a different direction with breeding. Petey has reached sexual maturity now and he will have other interests. You may find that he starts marking in the house as well. Sometimes females do - not sure if that's what's going on and maybe once she feels more comfortable, things will get a little better? I'm sure you've done your research and have seen alot of breeders talking about how much goes into breeding and now you are getting some first hand experience. I wish you luck as this is just the beginning! I hope things work out for you! |
