| Are my Yorkies fighting? I have 2 new 12 week old Yorkies, and when they are in their Xpen, they seem to fight. They nip at each others neck, and go around in circles. Some of the sounds make me think they are getting hurt. Is this normal? Should I put them in seperate crates at night? (They sleep on top of each other at night). I don't take them outside together - they think it is playtime. I am so nervous, I just don't want to do something wrong! I will post later about their vet appt...found some issues. Gotta get going for now though... |

| I got my 2 yorkies when they were 11 weeks old. We thought that they were fighting & were very nervous. Turns out they have only been playing together though. At their initial vet visit, I asked about this, and the vet said it would stop after they have established who the "dominant" one is, but they are almost 8 months old and still play-fight every day & have fun doing so. Here are some things to watch for in determining play versus fight, hope this helps! If one yelps like they got hurt, the other one should stop biting on that spot - they usually start play-fighting in a different area (like "no more ear, now I'll go for the leg!"). If they continue to yelp & the other doesn't let up, then they may be fighting & you may need to intervene. Also - I crate mine together and they do fine. If one stops to get a drink, the other should stop as well to let the one get a drink. If their tails are up, then they are most likely playing (if the tail is between legs & one's cowering, then you may need to step in). Make sure NOT to punish the agressor, but rather, just coddle the one getting beat up on the most if you need to step in, because if they are trying to establish dominance, you are going to confuse the less dominant one if you punish the more dominant one of the two. Like I mentioned, my yorkies still play-fight every day and they get quite loud when doing so, but we just let them be because they love to play so much. We keep watching for the "fighting" signs but don't see them, and the two love to "egg" each other one to come & get one another. Also - I crate them together & they do just fine.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Roxie and Pixie play fight all the time. The noises they make sound like they are killing each other. Now when they start picking on Cali they can get mean and I have to stop them. Otherwise they go at each other all the time in play.

| Wrestling~ Ryder and Roxie wrestle all the time! They make this vicious noises and practically have to be separated to get them to quit. I am sure they are just ruff housing and they are just having fun, if it seems to get a little crazy break them up for a second and tell them easy or play nice and let them go back to playing. Good luck!

| Pic of two wrestling Here is a pic of my two wrestling. They pin each other down, they nip at the legs, stand against each other. It is all fun and games, just dont let it get out of hand. PS. Be sure to update on the vet appointment.

| Oh yeah, it's def a dominance thing. One of them will win and be the alpha dog. While it seems kind of weird that one of them will end up being 'the boss' it's actually a good thing because it's just how dogs are. There is almost always a leader of the pack that keeps all the other ones in line.
