| Tips for 1st Grooming? Ramsey goes for his first grooming this week. Does anyone have any tips to make it go smoother? I stopped in and chatted with the groomer we chose and really like her. She was recommended by a family member. |

| Does your groomer allow you to stay and watch? Mine does and Lisa grooms in less than one our while I watch...I just love her. |

| I don't know for sure. I think she does, but that was one thing I didn't ask. Ramsey's mother is going at the same time. We decided to get them done together. Don't know if she'll be an example to him of how to behave or not. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Being comfortable with the groomer you chose is half the battle and having recommendations from family members helps make you feel more at ease also. To help ensure you get the results you want, try to have a picture of the cut you want to take with you and be very explicit in your communication with the groomer of what you want and don't want done. To help Ramsey feel a little more comfortable is a strange place, you might want to take a favorite toy of his to help him feel more secure while he waits before and after his grooming. Good luck with it.............hope you post before and after pictures!

| That's a great idea to take a toy. I wouldn't have thought of that. I do have a picture of the cut we would like. When I stopped and chatted with her she did say that she charges less for the 1st visit because it's shorter than subsequent ones. She tries to make it short and fun so that the dog will want to come back. |

| Well I am sure I am every groomers worst nightmare, But I sit and wait with mine. I dont want them to think I left them. Lucky for me my groomer only does this for me and one other customer. I dont take them in at the same time though, usually one the day after the first. |

| Generally speaking, they usually need groomed every 6-8 weeks, but it all depends on the cuts they get. Also, if their hair is a bit longer, they for sure need brushed at least once daily.

| Thanks. I just can't wait for him to get a haircut. The long hair in front of his eyes is driving me crazy. |

| For Scooters first few hair cuts, I took a ziplock bag of his favorite treats with me to the salon. I didn't want to leave him at the salon very long so I scheduled an appointment and waited for him to finish. I sat at the coffee shop next door waiting for them to finish. Our groomer hid the baggie in her jacket. She would stop every fe minutes and reward Scooter for being calm. He caught on to the idea and pretty soon, he knew that when he was in the salon on their tables, if he stood still, he would get jerky. They slowly increased the time in between treats. Now, he walks right in the salon and gets one big reward at the very end of the appointment. I still schedule appointments so that he doesn't sit in the cages at the salon so that coffee shop is still a favorite of mine. Long story short, I recommend taking a bag of treats. It made haircuts a really fun thing for Scooter.

What a great suggestion! I'm a home groomer, but the first few grooming sessions (first year) we used cheerios as a reward, I really think it helped.

| Good idea about the treats! We reward Ramsey for things like sitting and rolling over with Cheerios. He also has some peanut butter treats that we order that he really likes. I'll have to take something along with us. Thanks! |

| We took Maggie to Petsmart and they have a puppy package for $15.99 where they bathe them and trim only the feet, a little on the face, the private areas, and I asked for them to trim the tips of her ears. It is basically a minimal grooming so that they won't be so stressed for their first time. |
