YT 500 Club Member | How did you choose? I was searching for a breeder on the internet today and came across a breeder's website. She had on her website that she preffered male over female because the females are very rude and she has to keep them in the other room while guests are over. But with males they are alot more friendly and loving and like lap dogs. So how did you choose? Male or female? Did it matter to you?

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You will probably receive conflicting responses to this....I own 1 female and 3 males. Hands down every one of the boys are more affectionate cuddlers and momma's boys. I know lots of breeders who all agree males make the best pets.

| It didn't matter to me, my husband insisted that we get a female. I've had male dogs before though and I found them to be very loving.

Another thing for the original poster, while you're searching for a breed, try YTCA.org. Websites, can be very decieving.

I agree. I have two boys and four girls. Only one of the girls is what I would call a cuddler. My little Ceeby (male) is the sweetest little guy ever. hands down!!! Now, my other male is hyper as a jack rabbit but he is a sweetie. My girls can be hateful. They seem to be more terrritorial than the boys. And the other part of your question. I didn't choose a boy per se'. I went to the breeder near me and one boy is all she had left. Like so many people on here, I wanted him that day so I took him home and got a girl several months later. Last edited by Sugar's Mom; 06-20-2009 at 09:44 AM. | |

| Zoe is more affectionate than either of my boys. Peppee is the least affectionate. Brady will lay next to you but Zoe loves to be craddled and loved on.

| I have 2 females, 1 male. The male is a mommas boy , but my females are much more outgoing with visitors. The male is protective and barks Also, my male marks all over the place (and yes, he is neutered). For that reason alone, I would go with a female. They can be moody, but just as loving as a male.

Our female is very affectionate towards my husband. She would kiss him all day long if she could. She has gotten more cuddly as she's gotten older but she's still a Daddy's girl. My male is a total love bug with both of us but he loves me more I rock him in my computer chair almost every night. He's no little guy either. He hooks his head around my neck and almost wants to sit on my shoulder - it's so funny. Hard choice - so I say... get one of each!!!

| My first yorkie was male and I had him for 13 years. He was affectionate with me but not with my husband and kids. He didn't really want me to hold him just sit next to me and he would follow me everywhere. He was Mommy's baby boy. Now Piper, female, loves everybody. She is the most affectionate dog I've ever owned. Loves, Mommy, Daddy, children, strangers other dogs. Loves to be held, carried around, kissed and told what a pretty girl she is. She loves her Mommy but she also is Daddy's little girl. My DH is totally in love with her.

My Female is very loving and sweet to everybody. She loves to sit on my lap all the time, and gives kissess to whoever lets her. She is very people friendly, and love children. The reason why I chose a female is that I did not want to deal with the leg lifting issues males do. Male Yorkies are notorious leg lifters. PLease keep in mind that it is also important to socialize your Yorkie. Female yorkies are not rude, and should not be kept isolated when guets come over. I find that offensive, and untrue. However, that is one person's opinion , about how she treats her female Yorkies, that is sad and misleading to others who come and see her website. That breeder may want to keep her females for the sole purpose of breeding. One never knows the true reason behind such a bold statement. It is all a matter of how you train your Yorkie, and handle your dog.

| My female was the most cuddly of mine too. Ben is Mr. Independent. He wants his loving but when he is ready for it. If he has other things on his mind, I don't matter. The new puppy, Rocky, must have an invisible tether attached to me and it must only be about 2 foot long! LOL! JK but he has to be right here with me at all times. Follows me about all day and does not like it at all if I have to make a run to the store without him. He likes to cuddle but is also very playful and whether you get cuddled or chewed on is all up to him. So, he may be a little bit of a cross between mom and dad. I think you just have to go watch the puppies play for a while. See how they interact with you. Even then you never know. We once thought we were bringing home the quiet one, and as soon as she got here it was just the opposite. She must have been dominated by a littermate at her first home and really opened up once we got her on her own. I think as long a you stick with a good, reputable breeder, you can't go wrong. I don't think I have ever heard anyone get a "bad" Yorkie as far as personality. Some may be a little more loving, some a little more active, but they are all so adorable, you will fall in love with whichever one you choose.
