| New here..got my puppy on Sunday Hi everyone. I have been lurking for awhile, and I love this forum. I have always wanted a yorkie, and finally my husband got me one for Valentine's day. It was love at first sight when I saw him with his brothers. He already is stuck to me. He whines if I leave him with someone else and leave the room. If I put him on the floor he will roam a bit, but then comes right by my leg for me to pick him up. I ended up sleeping on the recliner with him on my chest last night because he whined so much when we went to bed. I definitely don't want this to become habit, so any suggestions/advice would be great on getting him to sleep in his crate. It breaks my heart to hear him cry. I am so much in love with this little guy. His name is Quincy, and sometimes I call him Sir Quincy. Of course my husband has to call him something different--just Q and once called him Q-Dog. He is 12 ounces right now and 6 and half weeks old. I don't know what color he'll end up being. His grandparents are silver while his mom and dad are blue/gold. I still can't believe I finally have a yorkie. I've been reading up on them and how to care for them for over a year now in preparation of getting him. Anyway, I think everyone here is great and I look forward to getting to know all of you and your yorkie babies. I've looked through the pictures, and they are all so beautiful! I am so sorry this is so long! I've attached picturs of my baby. |

| So happy you got your furbaby.....he's so adorable. Keep him close to you and make sure he eats enough and be sure to watch out for any signs of lethargy, and check his stools daily to be sure they are normal..... A close eye on temperment and food intake and normal elimination are key to getting off on the right foot with these little guys. keep us updated. |

| Wow, young little guy! Definitely keep a close eye on his food intake, and make sure he stays warm. I'd put a heating pad (on low) under a towel in his kennel at night for him to sleep on, and supplement him with Nutrical 3 times a day until he's older. Gracie was just a little over a pound when she came home but she was 9 weeks old, and I still had hypoglycemic issues with her the first few days. Keep us posted on how Quincy is doing! And welcome to the boards!

| I agree with Gracies mommy. I would also go ahead and put Karo in his drinking water - just in case. Quincy is a doll! Congratulations on your furbaby. We got our first yorkies last year. Love them to death. Can't help you on the not sleeping in bed. We (I) put them in bed with me and now they all sleep there. Hubby made them a carpeted ramp to get up on the bed since it is a higher one. |

| Quincy is a doll! Im ashamed to admit my very first litter of yorkies I let them go at 6 1/2 weeks, I was a nervus wreck! And I would never do it again..........to young to go!! These puppies had been licking food and eating it since 3 weeks and were as healthy as can be and bigger, 1 1/2 lbs to 2 lbs. Extremely fat, almost to fat. These puppies are almost 4 months old and are 2 1/2 lbs to 3 lbs.Everything worked out well ( for all concerned very lucky, extremely lucky!) It is possible for your puppy to be really healthy but keep a close eye on him! Hes a little guy............CONGRATS!!!!!! DID I say he was cute!.......oh yeah I did........lol Just keep a good eye on him. |

| He is precious! Isn't it just automatic to fall in love with them? Congrats on your new baby. We look forward to hearing more stories and seeing more pics. My only advice is ont to start any habits you are not willing to live with. As with children, once you start something it's hard to stop. They adapt to spoiling very quickly! Don't we wish they took to potty training the same way!!

| What a cutie!! Your puppy looks a lot like mine!!! I'll have to post some pics soon too. We've had some eating issues, so I sort of joined this forum under dire need for immediate expert information, I'll have to start a post to introduce me and my baby soon. I too got my doll as a Valentine's Day gift. I am also surprised by how much I already love her....guess that is why they call it puppy love! Glad to meet another newbie...we'll have to keep in contact concerning our little Valentine's Day gifts! Take care and good luck! |

| Thank you! Thank you so much everyone for the warm welcomes, and the advice on the little one. I've been watching his intake on food, he does pretty good eating. The breeder gave us some of the food he had been weaned on...she grinds the food up in a blender for the babies and adds water to it. She gave us a bag full of the food already ground up, and we bought the same kind of food she's been using. He has been eating really well, but I am worried he doesn't drink water very much. I was wondering if it's because the food has water in it? He is very active, loves to run around and bite toes. He has only barked twice, and that was when he was sleeping on my shoulder. He goes to the vet on Monday for a check over to make sure he's okay. I too have been worried about him being so small, but he seems to be doing great! Last night I was going to keep him in his crate, but I ended up falling asleep on the recliner with him. So tonight we will try again. I defintely don't want to get in the habit of him sleeping with me. I just adore this little guy! I am from central Arkansas...in North Little Rock. Yea for other Arkansans here! The idea of the heating pad in his crate under his blanket is a great one, thank you!! Any advice y'all have for me..we are in the process of moving into a new home. Everyone has been worried about him, but I figured i could leave him in his crate when we actually start moving the stuff. What do y'all think? Another thing, I saw a dog litter box at Pet Smart and was wondering if any of y'all have gone this route? I thought it was a great idea, and was planning on doing this once he gets a bit bigger (so he can actually get in it). Thank you again for the welcomes, and Quincy says thank you also! |

| pup Welcome to you and your new puppy. He is a cutie..too! If I may make a suggestion..put the heating pad under the crate itself..not in it..he might chew the cord, many do..best wishes |

Ooh good idea. Thank you! I'll do that instead. Quincy has already tried chewing on everything he finds, and we try to keep everything off the floor. About the Karo syrup y'all have talked about...so it goes in the water? I had read in a book that you could put a little bit on your finger and let them lick it off. Is this okay or not? | |
