| Help! Biting And Tossing Pee Pads Around! Hi Everyone, I have a 4 months old yorkie and she's tearing my place apart. She bites on pee pads for fun, and even when I switched to washable ones, she ends up tossing it around so the pee and poo are all over the place. I am really tired of this problem, I have used pee pad holders and apparently they are not as strong as her, she could pull the pee pads from the holders and still mess up the place. I would like to ask for your help to solve this behavior issue. If you have any suggestions at all, please let me know. Thank you all in advance! |

| I can understand your frustration. Is this while she's confined to a small area while you're gone? If so, she's probably really bored. Do you have puzzle toys and such in with her? This is really normal puppy behavior. I would make sure that the area can be cleaned easily. I would also look at how long the pup is left alone during the day. Maybe a puppy sitter would help. If it's happening while you're home, my best advice is to wear her little butt out by taking walks and playing. Just play and play and play. Also, change the pad every time she goes on it and then praise her and distract her from it by playing with her. Good luck!

| let me explain what I meant by a puppy sitter...I mean someone to come in during the day and take her out and play with her or a doggy daycare. Sorry if I was confusing.

| Hi there, She is confined to my bathroom which I have to say is not terribly big. I leave her there about 10 hours for work. What kind of toys would you recommend? I have tried numerous, but every time I leave the house, she starts barking and does not pay any attention to the toy. Same as food, I have to be there to watch her eat. This only happens when I am away...... Quote:

Its normal puppy play. You need to check her in the act and tell her "NO" and give her something you want her to play with. Good luck

| yea, ten hours is a long time for a little puppy. I would also worry about her going that long without someone there to make sure she's eating. We have a local service that will come in several times a day to feed and walk puppies and older dogs too. It's very reasonably priced. Your groomer or vet could recommend someone. I REALLY think this would be your best bet. To be honest, the mess is the least of your concerns. If you continue this routine, it really could lead to much more serious behavior issues.

| Awww, the poor lil thing is begging for attention! She's bored to tears while you're gone all day. 10 hours is really excessive for a little puppy, even a grown dog really. Is there anyone you could have come walk her and play with her during the day? |

| Hi, this is the kind of pad holder I use.. Amazon.com: Iris 301551 Floor Protection Tray -... The barking sounds like anxiety from you leaving, she knows you will be gone for a while. I saw an episode like this on the dog whisperer, perhaps look up some of his shows and see if you come across the one with dog anxiety. Do you have a relative or friend that can come entertain the dog for 20 minutes? or let her out to tinkle? Wishing you better days with your furbaby.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I don't want to pile on, but I agree, that is way too long to leave even an adult dog alone regularly, especially confined in a small space. Remember that they are very social creatures. Try to go home at lunch, take her to doggy daycare, or get a sitter as someone recommended. I'd also suggest giving her a little bit larger space, either an xpen, or a room closed off with a gate, etc.

| I appreciated we all have to work but leaving a puppy for 10 hrs a day in a small room isn't right She must be so lonely. Poor baby.

I really think you can find that much, don't you? Wouldn't that be cheaper than buying toys, cleaning supplies and new pads? I wish you and your pup nothing but happiness, but I have to leave this thread now. I hope you find a solution that is in her best interest.
