| Need opinions! Just got a new yorkie pup!! Hello everyone! I just got a yorkie puppy last week, she is a 9 week old female, she keeps scratching her head near her ears and i know this is because she has hairs inside her ear that are bothering her, what is the best way to clean out those hairs inside her ear so they dont bother her anymore? Also, she is 9 weeks ols lke i mentioned before...is it ok to give her a bath already? or should i wait longer? how lold she has to be for her first bath? And last..any good advise you may have for me will be very welcome! Thanks! |

| I had the same question about the ear hair...my vet told me to pluck them out with my fingers. We groom our yorkies ourselves, so need to know how to do this, but if you take your puppy to a groomer, they should do this for you. If the ear hairs are longer we've been cutting them VERY carefully...some people say to put cotton balls in their ears before you do this, but we don't do that & haven't had any issues. I'm surprised at 9 weeks that your pup would have an ear hair problem though, we didn't have any "inner ear" hair to pluck until they were about 4 months old. As far as your bath question...most of the info on the internet says that you can give a puppy its first bath after it has been weaned. We got our 2 yorkies when they were 11 weeks old & they got a bath the same day we got them. When we were at the breeders, they had 6 week old yorkies that were getting their first bath, so you should be fine. Congrats on the new addition to your family!

| you can purchase ear powder to help with ease of pulling hairs , I usually use tweezers or finger. She can certainly have a bath ,make sure to use tearless shampoo. Congratulations on your new addition

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Since she is a puppy, I'd be more concerned about an ear infection, mites, or other things. I'd probably get her looked over by a vet. CONGRATS on your new baby!

| 9 weeks is a bit young for the breeder to have placed the pup. Reputable breeders generally wait until around 12 weeks to place them. Make sure that you watch her closely and take the proper precautions to avoid issues with hypoglycemia. As for her ears, have you had her checked by a vet to eliminate the possibility of ear mites? That *could* be the problem. Keeping the hair out of her ears will help prevent ear infections, which could be another possibility. There really is no "good way" to get them out other then reach in there and pluck them out. Good luck and welcome to YT! |

| Do they have an odor to them? I would take her in to the vet. It could be an ear infection or earmites. I have had 2 pups that I've gotten with earmites |
